Your Nonprofit's Facebook Posts Are Probably Not Appearing on News Feeds Anymore
Itâs hard to believe, but itâs been close to 10 years since Facebook first introduced News Feed. And since then, Facebook has implemented over 30 major algorithm changes to determine what is prioritized on your Facebook News Feed. Their most recent update this past June seemed like the biggest blow to nonprofits as they announced that they would prioritize News Feeds to show posts from friends and family and less from pages. This just further emphasizes the need to focus on peer-to-peer engagement and mobilizing your biggest supporters to share your nonprofitâs content.
However, fear not, there is one âeasyâ way to keep your nonprofitâs Facebook posts prominent on your supportersâ News Feeds.
You can ask your supporters to update their News Feed page preference by following 2 steps:
Visit your nonprofitâs Facebook page
If theyâve already âLikedâ your page, hover over to where it says âLikedâ and check off the âSee Firstâ option. (If they havenât âLikedâ your page yet, they just have to click Like and then proceed to checking off âSee Firstâ)

How to Optimize Your Nonprofitâs Social Media Strategy (With a Small Budget)
This article was originally published on Nonprofit Hub.
2.72 billion people will be on a social network by 2016. 78 percent of the United States population has a social networking profile. Globally, Internet users spend an average of 101.4 minutes per day surfing social networks.
There are endless opportunities to gain exposure for your nonprofit through social media, but we all know itâs easier said than done. In my nine years of marketing experience, Iâve never had the luxury of having a large marketing budget or team, which is something most nonprofits can relate to. Below are tips and tools Iâve gathered to get started, make the process less overwhelming and to help you enhance your current social media strategy.
Prioritize Active Social Networks
The keyword here is âactive.â Unless you have a dedicated marketing team, youâre going to need to prioritize which social networks to have a presence in. Hereâs how:
Create Engaging Content for Your Nonprofit: Easy Tools and Tips

Online Fundraising Platform GreatPositive.com awarded as Best for NYC!
In March 2015, New York City became the first municipality to host a âBest Forâ campaign, an initiative led by the New York City Economic Development Center (NYCEDC) and B Lab to change how business success is defined. This campaign challenged NYC businesses to take a deep and honest look at how their businesses impact workers, communities, and the environment. Based on an assessment developed by the B Lab, over 1200 NYC businesses were benchmarked against vigorous standards on 4 main categories â governance, community, environment and customers.
We are so humbled to announce that GreatPositive was recognized as a "Best for NYC" business during an awards ceremony held on May 3, 2016 at The New York Academy of Sciences. In particular, we were recognized in two categories: for our dedication to our community and environment. We scored within the top 50 businesses when measured against all 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Staten Island) and top 10 within our borough of Queens.
So humbled to be honored as a #bestfornyc company, specifically in the best for community and best for environment categories. Out of over 1200 businesses who took the challenge, we were top 50 overall and top 10 within Queens borough!
Our founders are donating their milestone birthdays this year to go on a mission trip to Nicaragua, in lieu of gifts or dinner. Please help support and donate to their bday campaign on @greatpositive. Link in bio! #repost @hopeprojectinternational
What a pleasant package to receive from @kindsnacks! We can't wait to read this inspirational book and enjoy the goodies!

Clever and engaging content by @american_heart! "30 minutes a day is all it takes to start building a healthier heart. If you're planning on surviving the zombie apocalypse, you better get moving."
Yes, that's a picture of a Fallopian tube! Help support the nonprofit @untabooed reach their goals of providing a sustainable period solution for 100 women in need. Link is in @untabooed's bio.
What are Twitter Chats and how do I Participate?
Last year, we decided to delve into the world of Twitter Chats to further engage and connect our audience and weâre glad we did! We hosted our first Twitter Chat on âPositive Thinking Dayâ on September 13, 2015, and within a span of an hour, our participants contributed 868 tweets, reaching over 900,000 people and over 21 million timeline deliveries. Twitter Chats have been a great vehicle for us to raise awareness and connect likeminded people.
What is a Twitter Chat?
Twitter chats are organized chats on Twitter that occur during a pre-determined time where everyone participates using the same hashtag (in our case, itâs #GreatPositiveChat). The host of the Twitter Chat will generally have questions lined up based on the topic of the discussion. Our next twitter chat will be on the topic of âNonprofits and Brands Unite: How to Collaborate for Goodâ
How do I participate in a Twitter Chat?
Grab some coffee, learn about how to collaborate for good and connect with mission-driven businesses and nonprofits. Special guest host @causeartist! CommentđđŒto RSVP!

As long as women are treated as second class citizens...
Inspiring Us Blog Series
Meet Jaana Rehnström, Founder and President of The Kota Alliance
1. Jaana, what cause are you passionate about and why?
I am passionate about human rights, gender equality and womenâs empowerment. Ultimately, what the world needs is peace and prosperity, and itâs time the whole world realized it will not happen as long as women are treated as second class citizens in so many places.
