So as you can see, this song is the namesake for this blog and it means a lot to me. Cocona only really got two hymns, but the way they both sound resonate with me so much; something about the hard drums and intense singing of someone who is so small but has so much feeling just hits me right here, man. Honestly this song got me through a really dark time, particularly my favorite lines in the song that I feel solidified my identity for me when I really needed it: Although my power and my voice will die off someday, the determination swirling within my heart is eternal. I want to protect forever everything I ever believed in and loved.

To be totally candid, I always related to Cocona and associated myself with her, in a series with lots of lewd moments and needless sexual tones (AT isn’t exactly unique in that sense when it comes to JRPGs), which was always hard for me to look past when identifying with a character as a teenager. But while I loved Cocona because she didn’t really get much fanservice, and for her snark knight, tomboyish, determined qualities, it was mostly her general compassion and thankfulness for everyone in her life. Granted I only really know her character in Qoga and this drama CD.

Anyway just listen. It pumps you up and makes you want to fight for yourself and for what you love.

So this is where my music taste starts getting kinda weird and I start showing my love for chant-y sounding stuff, but bear with me! (mild volume warning around 0:25)

This is part of a series of doujin albums featuring the artist bermei.inazawa and three different vocalists, called Ancient Colors Infinity, published under the Voltage of Imagination circle. This is volume one, Taitou no Suika, featuring good old Haruka Shimotsuki. I absolutely love this song, I’ve never heard anything like it and it’s inspired me so much in art and writing. It just makes my brain explode with nature and reverence for it. I always get chills starting around 2:20, but it’s honestly hard for me to describe how it makes me feel aside from that. Just give it a shot.

Anyone who has been to any one of my art streams has probably heard this a million times, and forgive me but I just really love it. Much of the Ganbare Goemon series music can be a hard hit or miss for me, but this is definitely a hit. I actually spent a long time looking up all of the composers for this song to see if I could find similar SNES music. Something about that “bwaa-bwaa-bwaaaaah” just puts me in such a good mood.

Haruka Shimotsuki has a lot of really nice doujin works and has done work for a lot of visual novels and similar media. In general her stuff is really uplifting, not just because of her upbeat voice but the general feel of much of what she makes is very comfy, fun and welcoming, literally like a secret community of tiny elves and fairies in a magical forest. This song is one of my favorites because it is so unique, the deep bass is shockingly relaxing.

Last track on the AT3 Hymmnos Concert Album Side Red. I dunno what it is about this song but it’s almost haunting in a good way.
