Grandstand is conceived as a site, a stage set for discussion. The installation activates the Gymnasium Gallery as a democratic forum with aim of engaging the public into seeing art as political, as performative, and as participatory. Throughout the exhibition local artists, performers and groups will be invited to use the installation for meetings, performances or discussion – with the proviso that the events are open to all members of the public.

This Week at the Gymnasium

Thursday 17th from 2.30pm - 4pm → The University of the Third Age (U3A) will, this week, hold their poetry meeting in our Gymnasium space. Friday 18th from 2.30pm - 4pm → After their few hours of hilarity last week The Maltings Youth will be back in the Grandstand for more of the same jollity and madness.

This Week

After our opening night on Saturday 8th, we have had some great interest in the exhibition and our line up this week is as follows - Wednesday 12th & Thursday 13th, 11am- 5pm → Sarah Riseborough - Viewed/Viewer/Viewing. An artist discussion on the subject of 'the viewed' and of viewing, followed by a performance workshop on presence and being in the body. Friday 14th, 12pm- 2pm → Chlöe Smith - 900 Stories. Collecting stories and Memories of Berwick from those in the gallery. if you would like to book a time slot or for more detail then please get in touch with Ross at [email protected]

Grandstand Acknowledgments
