it was hard to find something to compare his laughs to. some bits remind her of the crackling of firewood as itâs engulfed, but perhaps itâs also possible the reason hyenas sound as they do is because theyâre spent their lives listening to the laughs of ⌠well whatever it was called that he was supposed to be represented by. though thereâs no reason to ruminate on every little thing he does, even if parts of her would very much enjoy dissecting setâs various mannerisms.
âjackâŚâ pandora repeats the name briefly â and it sounds slightly awkward, as if one was recanting some spell in unknown tongue. thereâs a thinking noise before it dawns on her. âoh, jackie. right.â of course, she never used that name for the child. her brain was hardstuck on anubis - or rather - inpu, as sheâs been corrected in the past. no actually, maybe instead of the father she should have just gone to the son with thisâŚ?
yet set already seems eager enough as it is, all things considered. âwell yeah, of course theyâd hate it. it usually means they got outsmarted or outplayed. if you ask me, i always thought of most of them as control freaks.â at least the ones she knew personally. âand uh, shit. if youâre taking this seriously, i guess i have to too.â but gods, would it be embarrassing to simply show up to the client again after already turning her down. so with grumbling she looks once again at her phone screen, conflict resting upon her face now. âiâll just text her real quick and say i just got an 'expertâs' opinion now, and to absolutely not tell her friend about anything.â
ââŚbut honestly, i didnât know you could do the whole bringing someone to life. i would have figured that was outside your interests. oh and for the whole method thing, observation is probably needed first. it wouldnât be great if your mauling caused some harm to the actual person, you know?â
you almost raise a brow at the way she mumbles your kid's name. why? you don't know, but it somewhat feels appropriate to do for a father of a thought-to-be-forgotten child. maybe. "Yeah, him, whatever he goes by nowadays." because their name, unlike yours, is actually quite distinct and will make mortals question either their origin or the sanity of their parents. you? you just put that 'h' at the end and it passes. easy.
"I wouldn't know if I'd call him a control freak though, but I can't say shit for the guy they hang out with. Seems normal and adjusted but he's Greek so." and you shrug, as if letting Pandora know that you're somewhat aware of the complicated and whimsical nature of her country's gods (even if you aren't that much better, come on). "Kid just hates unnecessary workload, and if I'm not mistaken, things are not quick down there for him. The whole heart weighing and all."
this is when you put on a shit-eating grin on your already smug face. "Who said anything about me personally bringing someone to life? I excel in quite the opposite." taunting, arrogant, conceited. "That thing wants to be brought back to life, so let it do that. We'll know the method and have the culprit prepped and ready for appherension. Two birds in one stone, easy." or you just don't want to put in work to hunt it while it's incorporeal. "And whoever gets harmed can probably walk it off, since when do you care? It's not like they're gonna end up dead."
â oh, so you're ticklish huh? â the words spoken with a toothy grin, an eyebrow raised as she glances down at him. she would actually like to test that one day, even if it would be to her own detriment. surely it wouldn't be too difficult to find a reason to place hands upon him...? unfortunately any thoughts of what's underneath his garb fades the more he speaks - but she supposed that was a consequence of hearing any gods speak longterm.
â what, you interested? because you know if it is a âspirit or ghost or whateverâ i donât think you can just punch it out. â âŚor maybe he could? there were still a lot of things pandora didnât quite know about how the ennead âfunctionedâ. how grand were their spheres of influence and were they all simply free to use whatever strengths they had across realms? if so, sheâd actually like to see it.
with a shrug of her shoulders, she decides she might as well speak more if heâs willing to hear it. â like i said, i donât deal with that kind of stuff, so i wouldnât know. but her friend told me that apparently she believes she made contact with someone from âbeyond the graveâ in her dreams. and that theyâll give her secret knowledge or something, as long as she brings them back to life. â thereâs a hand waved in dismissal as she continues to explain. â but they only started recently, the dreams, so iâm not convinced that itâs something serious. and if it is, well i canât actually do anything about it. â pandora didnât have the ability to hop around into what others might call the âdreamworldâ - and while she technically knew someone else that could help, vying a demonâs help on a whim would get her the tonguelashing of a lifetime.
     â could you? â
as you listened to her go on and on and on about this oh so diffucult case, a sneer kept creeping up on your face, and you could barely stifle a laugh at how ridiculous this whole thing was; oh, you knew it was a rude thing to do, to air this particular reaction out for everyone to see, but you cared not â that's how you wanted to react to it, everyone's opinion be damned.
"If I didn't know you better I'd think this is a lame joke," spoken through giggles and cackles; you steady yourself unnaturally quickly, only a cruel and greedy smile adorning your lips. "That thing is damn lucky that Jack's out of town for a few days. Those gods that deal with stiffs re-eally hate the whole 'bringing back to life' shtick, and I'd at least have some decency to let that guy yap a word or two before it's gone for the second time." for once, you were not lying when you've called yourself decent. a miracle, no less!
"Well, that beats hauling dead bodies around anyway, so consider me interested â I will gladly bring that someone to life just to hear about this secret knowledge," that you've probably heard a certain god mutter when they'd be deciding what to eat for lunch, "âand to personally maul it to death, of course!" uh-oh, here's your violent nature seeping out! "... Or we could lay a trap and hunt it the old way, with patience and observation. Your choice, really, I could always negotiate a better deal with that client for you."
her one hand scrolls through her phone as the other rests firm in her pantsâ pocket. whatever it is sheâs focused on, itâs enough for her to completely ignore the god creeping up beside her. thereâs a few hums and murmurs as she thinks yet nothing completely concrete â until thereâs that yelp from the sudden tug on her arm.
the dash of annoyance is clear on her face as sheâs turned around, but gradually softens when she sees exactly who it is. âseriously, man? youâre lucky i donât swing first sometimes.â âŚshe does, just she knows a bit better to do it here of all places.
soon thereâs a small grin on her face as well as swelling pride in her chest. âi didnât realize you were waiting for me though. shouldâve called me if you were that bored.â she wags her phone in her free hand, before speaking once more. âand nothing crazy today, just dealing with some insistent âclientâ. swears her friend is possessed or whatever. i tried explaining to her that i donât deal with that kind of stuff, but i got forced to âcheck it outâ anyway.â
âergo, iâm back early. a waste of my time. what about you?â
a guttural chuckle. "Do you really think your swings are more than a tickle to me?" is a needless question that you absolutely have to sound out â you can't just leave such a funny quip hanging unanswered! you? lucky she doesn't swing? in fact, you prefer the language of violence instead of silver tongue!
the sob story about the failed client almost passes your ears, and you are quite inclined to roll your eyes at it âyou kinda don't give a damn about it. people do stupid shit all the time, so you've learned to let it go with almost no consequences to the offender. almost being the key word.
"You know it's damn noon, everyone's only starting to wake up from their party nights. There's nothing to do and," you yawn, barely covering your mouth with your hand, "I don't feel like helping out with shit." the shit being one of your duties, but hey, the world isn't gonna collapse if you laze around for an hour or two.
"I could use some workout, what's up with that possessed chick? Is she catching some withdrawal symptoms or some bullshit, or that's an actual possession?" you cross your arms on your chest, the nefarious glint in your amber eyes suggesting not so quite noble and altruistic intentions. "Seems like an easy job if it's just some stupid spirit or ghost or whatever." everything is an easy job when it comes to you, but you'd rather take a stroll to distract yourself with this minor paranormal occurence that be dragged to do your godly job.
there's no way you are at the right place, you think to yourself. before you stands a... man? someone? almost of your height, mayhaps a bit, a pinch taller; did you accidentally venture into the wrong "hell" as people dub it?
you pull your shades up, resting them on the top of your head: you squint, brows furrowed and eyes darting around. it's not like you can see clearly, and this little gesture provides no new insight into the actual looks of the stranger before you aside from a blurry blob of white.
"So, where's Lucifer?" you have an inkling that the entity before you may be the one you seek, yet you care little for any impressions there are to be made; you rub your eyes, and with a tug you pull sunglasses down to obscure your ruby eyes again.

spying a familiar figure a few meters away from you, you feel compelled to go and ruin brighten up her day with your ever unpredictable presence; you sure do get a kick out of being a complete nuisance to people, it's just your thing, nothing more.
when you're finally close, you forcefully tug on her arm to turn her towards you.
"You're back earlier than expected. What's new?" maybe it's a genuine interest for nefarious reasons, or maybe it's just what you consider "small talk" and you will filter out the answer soon enough from your brain.

If there was anything she hated, it was being wrong, and only recently did she discover that she might be making a careless mistake over and over, and she couldnât stand for it. Occasionally she would glance over to the figure nearby, with furrowed brows and all, considering it concerned him. Perhaps she should consider herself lucky that she wouldnât be called out on her rude staring.  â Uh, can I ask you something, Anubis? Thereâs something thatâs been bugging me. I heard your dad refer to you as âInpuâ and wondered if it was a nickname, but that didnât seem like himâ â Not that she actually know him on a deeper, emotional level. Just enough to have a satisfactory connection. â âso I decided to do a little digging andâŚÂ â
â âŚHave I been calling you the wrong name this entire time? â // @graifâ
Itâs almost painful how the sarcastic âperhapsâ dances on the tip of his tongue â the only reason why itâs not been said out loud is a minute amount of consideration he has for her (or itâs simply not wanting to possibly provoke a bad reaction... or both).
âYes.â Clean-cut, just like usual. âIndeed you have.â Which is not surprising, really, given not only the whole nature of his fellow gods but also greeksâ tendency to name things their way. âBut I donât...â a slight pause, a bit longer than normal, â... mind.â There was another word all ready to escape from his mouth â âcareâ, to be exact, â but he deems it callous and and ill-suited for conveying his feelings (or a lack of those) on that matter.
âHere.â a âyeah, take it and get the hell out of my eyesightâ lingers in that phrase as a subtle hint that the customer is not getting any decent or acceptable customer service â seriously, thatâs not something you pride yourself on, especially given the fact that you tend to not like people. in general. like, completely.
... yeah, itâs handmade and exclusive and tailored to the tastes and thatâs why itâs much more expensive â there is a particular nagging question in the back of your mind that you decide to voice: â... Although I believe the church provides these pills of sufficient quality. Thereâs no need to order them from me.â not a question, but close enough. you arenât complaining about extra money... it simply strikes you as a very odd thing to do.

â If I may interject, as interesting as the topic is â it may do you some good to request water from the bartender soon. â // @graifâ ( mister sirius⌠)â
   ââThat wonât be necessary.â
He never takes being interrupted lightly â Siriusâ lips almost curl in displeasure; almost, â instead he picks his glass of wine (half-empty, a second one) and swirls it lightly. âUnlike most lot here I can handle a decent amount, not to mention the tavern is closing soon...â Sirius looks away from his conversation partner, quickly scanning the second floor.
â... That reminds me, I never got to hear your name.â
cont. @miburoniâ
âI see.â thereâs no need to waste even more breath to continue that sentence: after all, the cure for stupidity does not exist (âor you have yet to discover it, but with every second you exist, you are convinced further that it simply doesnât exist and humans donât plan on getting smarter much to your dismay).Â
âAs usual, you refuse to understand the situation youâre in.â perhaps, youâre behaving unnaturally calm â but of what use is spending your energy to shout at this berserker..? one cannot advance medicine without an agile mind to circumvent any possible obstacles â and Hijikata proves to be a rather immovable one, which your brute force cannot win (and the nurse is nowhere to be seen at this moment, so your chances of successfully dragging him into the office are close to zero). you take a few steps towards him with a determined look on your face: hm, perhaps...
âYou are refusing me a valuable experience which can be used to help others, and you have the nerve to say that to my face?â this reeks of bullshit and you know it â and he probably knows it too; but itâs worth a shot: even if it might not achieve the desired effect, there is a chance of creating an opening for you to try and knock him unconscious just like matron does â everything for the sake of medicine!..
