If You Know Me, Don't Hit Me.

I'm proud to announce that DOOMSCRYING, a game about pondering your orb instead of doing your chores, is now available for download on itch.io!

It's available FOR FREE because I want to know what people think of my first foray into a new realm of creativity (though you're welcome to pitch in a couple dollars if you really like it!)

Retailers have started running Black Friday sales. This is very wrong because:

Black Friday is January 13 1939, when bushfires wiped out 2 million hectares and killed 71 people

It's really upsetting that the first page of Google results for "Black Friday Australia" are all sales. Please. That is not our country.

Black Friday is the second largest (by area) bushfire in recorded Australian history. It lead to a Royal Commission on forestry management to mitigate future fires.

The fires currently burning in NSW and Queensland have destroyed 1.6 million hectares so far, which has been exacerbated by inaction on climate change and cutting of funding to fire services by Gladys "koala killer" Berejiklian.

It's frightening that only 1.6 million ha were destroyed at the time of my post, because by the end of Black Summer it was 18.6 million ha.

as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.”

small talk isn’t to get to know a person. it’s just a greeting to affirm you’re buddies in the universe.

"Same basic form" would include things like (for example) teachers or doctors, where the technology and information has changed but the basic responsibilities are the same: teaching and treating sick people.

it has finally clicked for me that "you don't have to be trans to be nonbinary" includes me

I have already been calling myself genderqueer for a while but now I fucking mean it.

I am genderqueer or a nonbinary woman.

my pronouns are not changing. I am still she/her. In fact, I am going to get more uptight about correcting people who they/them me persistently despite knowing better. I am still searching to see if there's others that feel like they fit as well, but I have had plenty of (involuntary) practice to be sure that they/them does not apply to me personally.

for the record, I do not consider myself trans but I do not consider myself cis either. I understand nonbinary is usually understood to be part of the trans umbrella so I'm not gonna get fussy about that distinction or anything, it's just not personally something I identify with.
