40 years... My parents met when they were babies in the church nursery at the Hollis Church of Christ, probably when Truman was still President. They’ve known each other their entire lives, and I love that big time. Whenever I’ve tried to explain you guys to someone I’ll say “Well if my dad got ketchup on his shirt he’d get upset and get mad at himself, and my mom would lick it off and laugh.” You two are completely nuts in completely different ways, and I adore you both. Thank you for always providing such a wonderful example of how to serve others and have high standards for yourselves. It’s hard to believe it’s been a year. My Grandad was not perfect, but he played a perfect role in my life. There are several lessons from the last few years of his life that I want to take with me, but probably the most important would be to reach out and stay in touch with people even when it’s easier not to. Last week my Leadership Norman class graduated, and I missing my people. Somehow my class elected me to speak on their behalf that our graduation, and it made me very loved and nervous. Having grown up in Norman this town represents something that I can’t put into words very easily... Getting to spend time with people from all different backgrounds and point of view is a little intoxicating for me - I had to try not to be too excited at our sessions. I’m ridiculously grateful for this experience, and I highly encourage you to apply for this next year’s class in the coming months if you life or work in Norman. On a side note, our graduation was on the 23rd anniversary of the bombing. On the day of the bombing my dad was the speaker for his LN class, and he was scheduled to be in the federal building that day... Getting to reflect on my family and community last week has made me very nostalgic lately. Anyway, if you’re reading this I want you to know that I love you, and you should sink your hooks into your community however best makes sense to you. (at Norman, Oklahoma)

I really appreciate those at the Capitol who are fighting for our states education. People get made about any and all talk about politics anymore, but our system was designed for feedback and sometimes pushback. Now is that time in Oklahoma.
