Those with cold hearts think they can learn about dogs by dissecting one. The more sensitive ones know that we can only truly know a dog if it becomes our pet. Intimacy is necessary to acquire knowledge, and knowledge is power.
This means that those warriors of pencil, brush, and pen—who gain intimacy with the deeper layers of things, the bones of the universe—become capable of mastering the universe. We gain the ability to draw better because we learn how things are on the inside.
I wish to follow in the footsteps of these great artists, dissectors of life, and that’s why I made this drawing study of a simplified skull.
