I think Assimilation is genuinely such a good character. The way we're introduced to them and led to believe they're a demonic evil entity hell bent on harassing the protagonist and then they get humanized and seem less alien to us than the protagonist himself. We can relate to it and see where its coming from, we can relate to its pain and anger from betrayal because we've all experienced that feeling. Man this episode was good. Honestly I still have 90% of the series to check outt (I knowww I know I'm newgen) but this already feels sufficiently enough like a stand alone short film/novel and there's already so much to grasp.
