hell of a night

“i’m all for it. i prefer it to do it much more quieter where i don’t have to be running away from teachers.” he teased, letting himself shift a bit away from the wall. “only if you wanna make a run for it but i don’t need all the trouble. you have the right idea with going through the back.” he said as he glanced real quick to make sure they were good. miles then began to walk where the exit would be, signaling grace to follow.

grace rolled her eyes, “well i wouldnt be running away, but the teacher saw me as i was trying to leave. i’m not as stealthy as i had hoped.” she shrugged sheepishly. with raised eyebrows, a satisfied grin began to emerge on her lips, “well then, guess you’re my accomplice in this now.” she laughed under her breath before following him, trying to make her feet as quiet as possible. once the back door was in their view, she gently grabbed his upper arm, “go go go” she whispered with a laugh.

      being late to detention most certainly isn’t the best look, but if he’s going to be sitting in a silent room for over an hour straight, he was going to have a bit of fun. eyes read and heavy, he successfully makes his way across the silent hallway until colliding with another figure. “oh, grace, what’s good ?” but before he gets an answer, she’s already shoving him down the hall, and he’s quick to keep up. “wait, what’s going on ?  because if i’m any later to detention i’m gonna get another week added on.”

grace snorts as she hears zig, trying the first door she sees and hurrying him inside the janitors closet. once the door is closed, she listens closely, whispering to zig, “well then, i’d say running into me was a bad move, cause i’m trying to skip detention right now.” she shrugs, still listening through the door.

miles wasn’t even sure why he listened but she seemed to know what she was doing. a smile crept up on his lips hearing her reasoning. “prison break…i like it.” his body stayed against the wall quietly until he no longer heard footsteps. “i think we’re clear. where were you headed to then?” 

grace laughed quietly, glad he approved of her delinquency, “good. i’d definitely think less of you if you thought detention skipping wasn’t cool.” she joked, partially at least. she motioned with her head down the hall, “well, the front doors are too risky to leave out of, so i was heading towards the back exit. which is farther away, but definitely less likely to get caught.”

fiona had stayed after school for drama club but, they ended up cutting rehearsals early due to everything that had happened –– no one really being in the mood to work on the play at the moment. she had just rounded a corner, taking a sip from her water bottle as she did so, the impact from running into grace causing it to spill on the floor –– and her shoes. “hey,” she began, her voice a whine; before she was being pushed down the hall. hearing the footsteps, she felt a slight panic realizing she would be in trouble if they were caught. “shit” she let out before picking up her feet to move down to safety. “so, what is going on?” she questioned, a little confused by grace’s hasty retreat down the halls.

grace cringed when she saw she had spilled fiona’s drink, whispering a mumbled, “oh shit my bad.” she shrugged, feeling bad but more worried about not getting caught. the two turned a corner and hid as the footsteps retreated in a different direction, “well... i’m trying to skip detention. but this damn teacher is determined to find me.” she rolled her eyes, peeking down the hall and listening for more footsteps.

miles had other things in mind walking down the halls of the school. as he turned the corner looking down at his phone he had bumped into someone. “what’s–” he was then pushed to the other direction listening to grace immediately. he picked up the pace until finally stopping once it seemed like everything was settled. “what the hell, grace?”

grace shooed the boy down the hall, rounding a corner and hiding there as the footsteps grew farther away from them. she was nearly holding her breath, only releasing it once miles spoke. she let out a little laugh, “sorry, trying to escape detention, but the teacher was catching up with me.”

mike was just getting done with his hockey practice. he had turned the corner when he felt someone run right into his sweaty body. “damn.” he said softly as he tried his best to grab her so she wouldnt fall. “you good?” he asked her. though before he could even get a answer out of her he was being shooed away with her. following quickly ahead of her he ducked in the locker room with her and laughed. “what are we running from?” he asked shutting the door.

grace scrunched her nose as he followed her, “ew gross, i’m not normally offended by natural occurrences with the body but damn.” she smirked, looking back at him quickly before pushing open the first door she saw and hiding within, “um, i’m running from detention, and you’re here so you don’t give my hiding spot away.”

“You know, part of me wanted to do that but I didn’t want to be stuck in the house with my family.’ She chuckled softly before nodding. “Well, yeah, but they knew where I would be and who I was with, so it’s not like I was going to do anything bad or illegal. We’ve got a complicated relationship, I guess you could say.”

Grace nodded her head slowly, “Right, well, it’s just me and my mom and she tends to leave me alone when I want to be left alone so I guess I just can’t relate.” She pressed her lips together in a tight line, “Ah, I see. Complicated usually isn’t good, so I’m sorry to hear that. But hey, at least they care about you.”

“It wasn’t horrible at all, stop that. Oh yeah sorry outlets are the complete opposite.” He tires to joke with her. “that’s not dumb at all, you know some of the best songs are the ones that talk about the hard stuff like that. unrequited love sucks, sounds like you’re stull trying to figure that part out though. if you need someone to play while you’re trying to sing or write or whatever i could help you and not judge.”

grace rolls her eyes, “whatever, shut up.” she tries her best to hide the smirk on her face. looking down into her lap, she chews on her bottom lip, nodding her head, “unrequited love is not some tragic thing. i feel like taylor swift writing this song.” she shakes her head at herself, glancing up at him, “that’s impossible, it’s in human nature to constantly judge everything and everyone.”

“that’d be great…if it wasn’t during the morning,” it seemed like a pretty good idea if heather was petty enough, which she was. “i might do it randomly at night instead, who knows.”

grace frowned deeply, “uck, no. i am not a morning person. and being woken up by crappy music in the morning? i’d start throwing shit at my neighbors house, immediately.” she half joked, though she probably would do that, “give them a taste of their own medicine.”

“i like to think i’m very nice to you. but i’m looking forward to the day you do let me hear it.” he smiled at her, nudging her shoulder.  “not at all. i also need you to take me down a peg or two,” he teased. “i just might be. laugh all you want but it could happen. at least i’m preparing for the worst already.”

grace looked away, but smiled as he nudged her, “yeah, i guess you’re mostly nice to me. just.. never played my own music for anyone.” she shrugged, lifting her head to look over at him again, “oh i will gladly knock you down several pegs any time.” she teased. “alright well, if you’re abducted by aliens, i’ll be sure to tell your story, i promise.”

“ the appeal of what ? puking your guts out ? or emotional clarity ? ”  he definitely preferred the latter , but hey , if it took the first to get there , he’d take it. “ there will always be more holidays , and besides. halloween lives in your heart , not the calendar. let your spooky flag fly. ”

grace smirked, “uh, now that i think about it, neither of those appeal to me.” she cringed, shaking her head, “i’m not a ‘holiday spirit’ kind of person, at all really. no holiday excites me much. i prefer my days to be normal, nothing special.”

“Wicked.. That was the one based off the Wizard of Oz, right?” She asked curiously. She never was one to delve into plays. “Maybe a bath will help my stress a little too. I’ll have to give it a try.” She smiled.

Grace nodded, “Yeah, it was about the witches from the Wizard of Oz. The songs are incredible and the story is pretty cool.” She mentioned with just a slight hint of excitement in her tone. “I’m not really a bath kind of person, but I heard they can be relaxing if you let them be. Plus, some alone time with bubbles and maybe some good music playing is always nice.”

“Wow, someone seems to be an expert on all things men. How original.” He scoffed. “PLease, share some more of your knowledge with me.”

“Oh, I am claiming no such thing. Humans in general are just very predictable.” She shrugged nonchalantly, “I’m just saying, people don’t throw punches just because.”

“What do you call what you were just doing then? Sorry I broke that streak for you. But song writing? That’s pretty cool.” His eyes glance to the journal but only after she closes it. “I bet it’s not dumb unless you got your song writing inspiration from Brittney S. Pierce on Glee. Can I ask what it’s about or?”

Grace sighs, “I dunno, I was... mumbling... mumble singing. Horribly, might I add. But uh, its really not that cool, it’s just.. an outlet or whatever.” She rolls her eyes at herself, looking down into her lap awkwardly, “I get my song inspiration from feelings, so yeah, it’s kind of dumb.. it’s about, i guess unrequited love? not completely sure yet.”
