TLDR: The SSPX is an ultra-rightwing group that operates in direct defiance to Canon Law. They were excommunicated first in 1988 for consencrating bishops without papal permission, brought back into the church in 2009, and now excommunicated for the same schismatic shenanigans. Only difference this time is that the regular parishioners are excommunicated too if they continue to attend SSPX services, which makes sense since they had 50 years to unfuck themselves.
