He is sooo sick of them <3 I actually started writing a bicci fic set at Rowan’s wedding (inspired by this mornings posting) where Jimmy and Lister haven’t spoken in years and then see each other at Rowan’s wedding and they sleep together cause of course they dooo. And Lister is in a relationship in the fic. Cheating can be so fun in fiction.

In the beginning I think Rowan is like “why would you two do this, it’s like you WANT to ruin our lives” but of course he doesn’t say it in those words but he’s Not Happy about it and he gets sick of them so quick because they are NOT subtle and the situation gives Rowan a massive headache.

I think after a year or a couple he’s just like. used to it. and as long as they don’t do anything that effects the band or if they get too annoying at home when they’re fighting and not talking to each other or when they’re in one of their lovey phases and he’s tired of it.

I think there’s a period where they’re in something that resembles a typical romantic relationship and Rowan is like okay…this could be good they’re getting it together maybe they can be good for each other now. And admittedly he’s rooting for them because he’s seen firsthand the pining and knows how much Jimmy wants a Normal and Happy relationship and maybe it would be kinda cool if that was Lister for him. But I don’t think that lasts long.

Then I think when they’re older like late 20s and Lister and Jimmy have had longer periods of not having sex or dating or anything like that and they see other people but inevitably end up hooking up again and Rowan realizes they’re never going to get over each other. For a while Rowan tries to not get involved in it, but they are his two best friends and he always ends up giving them his two cents when one of them goes to him about it. And he does always want to just say “grow up and get over it” but he usually listens and gives them actual advice, which is sometimes “get over it” but in more sophisticated words.

ok well @slugmania pretty much said everything i was thinking here already but i guess i can add a few aspects to the "convincing" routine they do when they do this.

first off i think lister has spoken about how it would be fun before they ever have the opportunity to have sex in a semi-public space. and jimmy probably agreed in conversation but flips 180 when it becomes a real possibility. both of them have found reasons to chicken out of it before even though they both find the idea exciting. but this means that even as lister adjusts to the routine of "wearing jimmy down" there's still part of him that thinks jimmy's only going along with it because lister brought it up all that time ago.

and i think they don't do it very much but it does at one point become enough of a problem that cecily has to intervene lest it become more of an issue with like venue staff on tour or at award shows. and i kind of think jimmy lets lister take most of the fall for it. like he doesn't straight up go "lister made me do it!!" because well. that's not true. he doesn't even delude himself into thinking that because he knows he likes it a lot. but when cecily is telling them off and lister rises to explain, causing cecily to double down and focus her anger on him, jimmy doesn't stop that from happening.
