The thing shook. Tobirama managed to curse Hashirama for about half a time when it careened to the side and fell apart, his own body slipping down the steps into a freefall. The ceiling grew distant with the loudest screech and clang. Curse his Anija. Tobirama will haunt him from the afterlife.
He slammed into the ground, his backbone breaking, and died.
Except he didn’t.
When all of the deafening noise ceased, Tobirama got courage sufficient to unglue his eyelids enough to squint at the grimacing face above him.
“I suppose it could have been more romantic, but you are way too heavy for that,” Madara squeezed out, struggling to support his weight. He managed to catch Tobirama amid his fall, but rather awkwardly, one of his arms winding around the middle of Tobirama’s back and only one of Tobirama’s legs suspended in the air, the other foot dragging along the ground instead. Well, at least he did succeed with the rescue.
“Apologies for not being a damsel,” Tobirama quirked his brow, crossing his arms over his chest. He did not bother to try and stand up.
“For not being one you sure are often finding yourself in distress,” Madara huffed. “How about thanking me for saving you from breaking your back?”
“What, you want a kiss on the cheek?” Tobirama snorted. “Oh, my most gracious saviour! If not for your salient effort, I would now be dead!”
“Yes,” Madara bit out. “That, and you could get up already, I can barely stand.”
“Oh you poor thing,” Tobirama smirked, feeling exceedingly petty for some reason. “That is a burden you now have to carry.”
“Be careful of what you wish for,” Madara sneered. “Because I will and you know that.” Tobirama immediately regretted the decision, because a hand squeezed the inside of his thigh.
“You dissolute wretch!” he hissed, clawing at Madara’s face, his neck and ears heating up momentarily. “Have you ever heard of consent?!”
“You think you can use me and get away unscathed? I’ve told you it won’t work before!” Madara cackled, struggling, “Should have considered your options, because you rather like it here in my arms as far as I can tell!”
Tobirama yanked at his hair and in response Madara bit his hand. The scuffle was quickly turning violent.
“Keep your hands to yourself!”
“I should, you don’t deserve my help!”
“What?! That’s your sacred responsibility!”
“I don’t remember any vows being exchanged!”
“There won’t ever be any if you keep being so obnoxious!”
“What, should I now just let you step all over myself?!”
“Somehow I doubt that’s not the goal of this relationship!”
“The goal is the relationship itself, you insufferable leech!”
“Jerk!”
“Knave!”
“That’s it, I’m going to murder you!”
“Try your best!”
“SHAMELESS,” a thunderous voice cut through the empty archive hall. They both stilled, the struggle ceasing immediately.
