Hobonichi Recommendations
It's that time of year again when Hobonichi anounces there new years lineup. To help some of you pick out the Hobonichi that works best for you here is my experience with them.
Cousin A5:
Years used: 3
Appeal:
- space
- Organization
How I used it:
- I used it for school. The monthly calander I would use manly for personal use when things I was looking forward where happening... and things like what day test where happening
- Weekly pages where an over view of what needed to get done that week and how I was going to manage my time.
- Daily pages where to do list, thoughts, sketches, so on
Weekly:
Years used: 2
Appeal
- slim
- Can fit in pocket
How I used it:
- I used these for work. I found I no longer needed to keep as many things organized as I did in school so I no longer needed a cousin. I used the monthly to keep track of what days I was working and personal things like birthdays.
- Weekly pages I used as time management
- On the free pages next to the weeks pages i used for habbit tracking, hobbies, weekly goals, and things that needed to keep note of for the week.
Days free
Years used: 1
Appeal
- More freedom in journaling
- Monthly calendar
- Less pages then cousin
How I used it:
- I was doing a lot of travelling last year and really only wanted to have a monthly calendar to keep track of dates
- The free pages allowed me to journal about things without keeping up with dates and gave free space to make spreads.
- I didn't need as many pages as came in the cousin
Cousin A6 (spring start)
Years used: 1
Appeal
- Compact
- Easier to take notes in than the Hobonichi weeks
How I used it:
- Memory log
- Project break downs
- During the time of this planner all I did was work, knit, and plan. Many of my pages were layouts of rooms I was in so I could show my friends and family. I would make notes on what I was knitting. As well as made extensive plans for things such as how I wanted to set up my garden the following spring.
What I will be buying for 2027:
I have decided to buy the Hobonichi A5 Cousin for 2027.
I have big dreams for myself and have been using my planner to organize how to achieve those dreams. I'm finding a bigger planner would be nice to organize everything in. A5 is my favourite planner from Hobonichi and often feels like home when I'm in it. Since it has been a few years since I last had one I decided I wanted to go back to it.
How I plan to use it:
Monthly pages:
- schedule
This will be a monthly over view of when I have classes, shifts, additions, appointments, as well as birthdays and plans with friends.
Weekly pages:
- time management
- goal breakdown
This is where I organize my time and goals together. My weekly pages will show the times things like classes are happening and have my goals broken down into daily steps as a way to make progress on them.
Daily pages:
- lists
- ideas
- brainstorming
- art
This is my brain on paper. The daily pages are where I will organize my thoughts, write about things I'm interested in, and scatter some art along the pages.
