DRAKE AND CHRIS BROWN… FRIENDS? 

WOW never would have I thought there would be this day, I guess both parties decided to swallow that big dick of pride and finally handle things like real men. 

Chris Brown had this to say about the two reuniting, 

"We’re young, so it’s not like [we had] a pow wow over tea or nothing. It didn’t need to be explained. It wasn’t no problem…I wanted to be able to bring light to the situation and just grow up. I’m 25 and I’m not getting younger. You can’t walk around holding grudges, looking over your shoulder and being negative all the time. I’m tired of being looked at as the aggressor, so I just wanted to show my maturity…Working on music is something we’re gonna continuously try to do and make happen. I know it’ll be a big thing for the fans if they hear a song –- but it has to be the right song, for both of us, at the end of the day. When we were in the studio [Drake] was like, ‘Oh, man, I need to have my studio like this. My vibe is a little different — I like to have a party. It’s like the club in my studio with 15 or 20 girls, a couple of my homies, drinks and everybody’s having fun. I just get the vibe off the energy from them."

Why I Love Toronto

World Pride

Canada is known around the world for many things. We are known as country of acceptance, equality and peace as well as one that welcomes the world.  Whether we are welcoming the world to live in Canada or for an event like the Olympics we always welcome them with open arms.

This year Toronto has been given the opportunity to host an event that brings with it a message of change and acceptance. World Pride will be hosted in our city this year, welcoming LGBT individuals from around the world to safe city that accepts who they are. It is hard to believe that in this day in age there are parts of the world that have such archaic beliefs on love and that there are people who are denied the right to be who they are and to marry who they love. These individual are sometimes punished for loving someone of the same sex and are imprisoned, harassed or killed. It is a sickening thought, but something that happens. I think it is an honour that the city is hosting an event such as World Pride, even if our Mayor refuses to acknowledge it.  We are welcoming the world to a safe place, where they can be who they want to be.

This 10 day celebration starts tomorrow and runs until the big World Pride Parade on Sunday June 29.  The event will be a mixture of educational and political events, art festivals, parities and parades. If you walk down Toronto you will notice rainbow colours appearing on crosswalks, food and store front windows.  It is also amazing that Toronto is 4th host of this event and is the first city in North America to hold it.  

Now there will be plenty of events for you to check out and that is why I am giving you my top World Pride events.  

Friday June 20

U of T Pride Pub at Hart House Circle (4:00 p.m.)

This event is an outdoor BBQ and Community Fair. Come by for food, drinks, DJs and dancing.

Melissa Ethridge and Deborah Cox at Nathan Phillips Square.

The opening ceremony kicks off with these two lovely ladies. I hope Melissa sings my favourite song “Come to my Window.”

Saturday June 21

Nuit Rose from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

This is similar to October’s Nuit Blanche in that it is a free late-night festival of contemporary art. The difference is that it is primarily queer focused and it doesn’t really go until sunrise (it misses it by an hour and a half). With 80+ art installations, exhibitions and performances showcasing the work of queer Canadian and international artists this event is sure to provoke your minds. Spread across Toronto, catch the free ArtBus to get where you want to go.

Pride of Bloor Yorkville at 7:30 p.m.

The Bloor-Yorkville BIA will celebrate the World Pride 2014 with concert by Mia Martina in support of Fife House. Fife House is a provider of secure, affordable housing and services for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Greater Toronto Area.

Monday June 23

Pride Prom at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre

The name is what it suggests. This event is for queer and trans high school students who may not be comfortable in their school environment to bring their boyfriend or girlfriend to prom or who weren’t ready to slow dance to a slow Britney Spears song like Quicksand in front of their graduating class. Well, luckily this event is a positive prom space. Have the prom you’ve always wanted and bring your friends. Plus get ready for a Red Carpet.

Wednesday June 25

My Big Fab Garden Wedding at Toronto Botanical Garden

Couples from around the world will be coming to get married in Toronto. Maybe it’s because their countries don’t accept gay marriage or maybe they want to make a statement. Regardless people will be saying “I Do” around one of the city’s most stunning gardens.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert at St. James Park

Enjoy a free screening of  Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert preceded by a live drag show!

Friday June 27

MTV Presents Pop Goes Pride at 7:00 p.m.

This is when everyone will be arriving to Toronto and why not welcome them with a huge concert! Carly Rae Jepsen will be performing her hit Call Me Maybe, which I feel will be muttered by club goers later in the evening.

Dragonette will saying “Hello” to everyone and probably encourage them to “Live in this City.”

Fefe Dobson, better not be “Stuttering” in this performance, but rather “Celebrate!” Also she may sing her hit “Bye Bye Boyfriend,” which hopefully won’t be heard by any couples that night.

I think that ends my clever musical puns.

FNL at the ROM at 7:00p.m.

This Pride themed FNL will also be the last for the season! If I could suggest any event it would be this one! Trust me it is truly amazing! If you are visiting Toronto, the ROM is a must see attraction. So why not do it when admission is half-off and you can enjoy some local food vendors, beer and music!

WANNABE: A spice girl tribute band at Adelaide Hall. Starting at 11:00 p.m.

I am going to hit up this event, because one of my blog followers has been trying to get me to go since I started. Described as Toronto’s most fabulous tribute band, WANNABE! is taking things to the next level with ALL the SPICE HITS.

Sunday June 29

Pride Parade followed by a free Tegan & Sara concert!

The World Pride Parade is the main event starting at 1:00p.m.

It all ends with a free concert by Tegan and Sara at 5:00p.m.
