Anyone else not know how to feel about the new Avatar movie? Like the animation and artstyle are gorgeous, but they’re not the same as the og series. The characters all act the same, but they don’t sound or look the same.
Aang is the tallest now; Zuko’s got the bishonen long hair. Every time it starts to resemble the show I remember, something happens that takes me out of it. Instead of watching the movie and feeling nostalgic, I just feel wistful over a time that’s long gone. This movie is a perfect metaphor for memories. You look at them and feel a sense of familiarity and comfort, but the longer you look the more you notice things have changed.
I miss Avatar the Last Airbender. I miss this world and these characters. No project since then has managed to capture the same magic the og series did, and this movie is no exception. I wish I liked this movie, and I wish it was more in line with the og series instead of… whatever it ended up being. Overall, I think I just miss being a kid. I miss the feelings the og series invoked in me, and I miss how the world used to be.
