The ship was quiet.

Most of the crew had gone to sleep, leaving Jace alone in the lounge, staring a the nighttime screen window. The only things comforting him was the hum of the engines and his thoughts. He stared at the dead pixel in the top right corner of the nighttime window screen. It was bothering him.

He'd have to fix it soon.

He hears the sound of the doors opening, and then footsteps, before someone plops on the couch, next to him, his warm presence a contrast to Jace's own cold one. "You're thinking again," Daisuke observed, nudging him gently with his elbow. Jace scowled. "No shit, Sherlock." Daisuke grinned, scooting closer to Jace. "About Earth?" Jace was silent for a moment, chewing his lip. "...yeah."

Daisuke leaned back, staring at Jace. "When we get back, what are you going to do?" Jace clicked his tongue, considering it. "Dunno. Probably going to job hop again, find an apartment while I'm at it." He hesitated. "...you?"

Daisuke hummed. "I'd probably go back to my parents. I miss them." His voice dropped, quieter now. "But I think I'll miss this, too."

Jace pulled up his legs. "Space?"

Daisuke shook his head. "You."

Silence.

Jace turned his head to find Daisuke staring at him with something in his eyes. He doesn't know what it is. Jace swallowed, fingers gripping the fabric of his pants. "...idiot."

Daisuke laughed- that laugh of his that doesn't belong here, with the cold metals hallways and grim atmosphere of the Tulpar. It was too much, too warm, too alive. Jace felt his chest tighten, and he clutched his pants tighter. "Yeah, yeah, but you'd miss me too, right?"

Jace didn't answer, turning back to stare at the nighttime window screen and burying his head in his knees, pretending he didn't feel the same way.
