A blog about the Positivity in the Furry Fandom

So, I went to the RCMA preschool in Palmetto (it’s a really cool place with really nice people. They provide childcare for migrant and rural families all around Florida. There are multiple locations, too.) I went in with my mom to teach a unit on manners. My mom brought in a book and read to the kids as I acted it out. For the most part, they adored it. (Except for the one little boy who was scared to death of me and wouldn’t stop clinging to the teacher. You can’t win ‘em all, though!) They called me various names, including “Sarah Kitty”, “Kitty”, “Gato”, and even “Kittita”. (Not a lot of them spoke English very well.) After the manners lesson, my mom took some photos of me with the kids.  They even want me to come back after the summer ends and school is back in session! 

I had a lot of fun.

What do we mean? We want to see pictures of fursuiters making people smile! Know of a few pictures of fursuiters bringing a bit of joy to somebody?  We want this blog to focus on good events, achievements, and particular furs in the furry fandom! While we want to be able to highlight everyone, there are a few we may have to turn down.  An example would be, say, a personal friend whom has been there for you. While it is fantastic to have great friends, and while you may appreciate them immensely, Good Furs may not be the best place to 'proudly show your friend off'.   However, if this friend has done more than just help you in times of need, but has reached out and made plenty others smile, or just helped a great number of people (such as visiting hospitals, raising money for oragnizations, ect.) that is something we want to hear!  Perhaps you know of a convention that has raised x amount of dollars for a conservation project, or any charity at all! 

 Or was a fur in a tight situation, and a group of people came together to make that better? Tell us!

 There are countless acts of good will in this fandom.  We'd love to hear from you all, so please don't be shy in sharing what great deeds or good furs you have come across! 

 When a family cat named Ollie, owned by user Gargoyale of FA, ingested parts of a poisonous plant he became in urgent need of medical care. Fearing for their feline's health, Gargoyale desperately reached out to the community in hopes of getting aid for the several hundred dollar medical bill to help the sick feline recover.

 Their plea read as such: "I'm trying so hard to not have an emotional breakdown right now I…I don't know how I can even word all this my mind is just everywhere and I just--

Guys I really need some help…I need all the help I can get;

Last night we thought Ollie consumed a poisonous plant, we found out the plant my mom had on the counter was poisonous and had bite marks over it, he threw up twice and was yelping in pain. We took him to the vet, and found out the situation was even worse then we thought…It turns out Ollie has a his Urinary Track Blocked…He can't urinate and he's in a lot of pain…The poisonous plant was a coincidence..

Basically I just…I'm in danger of losing Ollie, and I only have a little bit of time in order to gain the funds to potentially save him, the vet bill is to expensive even if my mother and I combined out Christmas money we…Don't have enough…

Ollie is the world to me…In 2009 I lost my first cat Kiari to a heart condition, I became extremely depressed until Ollie came into my life and helped me grow and move on from my loss…And now I can potentially be losing him..If I lose Ollie I just..I don't know what I'll do with myself…He's everything to me;;

I don't know how to ask this of people;; But if there's any way possible you could donate…Anything; Even just a dollar would help me out;; I have to come up with a few hundred dollars in order to afford what we can physically can in order to save him;

I'm sorry guys I'm sorry I'm asking for money; I'd never want to do this but I'm so desperate in trying to save him.;;;

 It wasn't long until FA users rushed to their aid, offering prayers, donations, and signal boosting their cry for help. There were even folk who, though they did not have money at the time, took it upon themselves to do extra work to raise money for Ollie.

Thankfully now, with the help of the kind users of FurAffinity, Ollie was able to receive his medical care, much to Gargoyale's relief. We decided to ask them a couple questions, which they happily obliged to.

Did you expect so many people to rush to help you out?

"I had heard on many accounts that the furry community was a very supportive and helpful group, but even so I didn't expect the amount of help I was given, it was amazing!"

What was the most surprising about your experience?

"The overall response to the situation was overwhelming but in a good way! I got so many supportive messages from people that helped make the panicky situation much easier for me to cope with, enough money was raised by the end of the day that helped my family and I relax and not worry about whether we'd be able to afford the vet bill or not, which was such a huuuge relief."

And how is Ollie now? How is he doing?

"Ollie has been on medication since the incident and he's made a huge comeback! As of today he's practically acting like his normal self, he's eating ALL of his food and drinking plenty of water and going to the bathroom regularly. He's getting plenty spoiled with attention from my family :) Lots of pets and scratches. He's a very happy cat."

We asked them one final question.
