: As the Christmas season creeps around the corner, you can't help but want to show your girlfriend all the different activities there are to the season other than decapitating the jolly fat man.Β
Tis the season to share that happy bond with someone close, more specifically a love interest if you have a particular leathery-leaved parasitic plant that tends to casually hang around door frames or archways.
Each Mistletoe has its own intentions. Some are deviant- meaning they're there to cause mischief. Some criminal- meaning they're there to cause some heated arguments. And some are completely innocent- meaning they're just there for decoration or to unite two sentimental souls who've been crushing on each other for the longest of time.
Either way- a Mistletoe is a festive tradition from way back, a tradition I have to stick to this year for I'm not alone, no, instead I have Wednesday Addams, who may just hate me after today⦠but it's a risk I'm willing to take.
"What are you doing?" Wednesday peers her head from around a corner, her body soon following "-What is that?"
"A Mistletoe" I grin, earning a scoff from the small girl dressed like an olden TV show.
"I've seen my parents kiss under a red spider lily before⦠but this?" She tilts her head in uncertainty, eyes narrowing at its perky colours. "It's excessive⦠don't you think?"
"Well⦠your opinion doesn't dare to oppress mine" I roll my eyes at her, looking back up to the festive plant that serves as both an icebreaker and a heartbreaker.
I could sense Wednesday's looming presence, it's always suffocating and yet I yearn for it⦠what a strange predicament.
I faff around with the thin leaves on the Mistletoe, gently rubbing and stroking at its small branches to separate them a tad bit more.
I furrow my eyebrows, looking back to Wednesday with hurtful eyes. Odd? Ouchβ¦ "It's not that badβ¦" I frown, taking a step back from the doorframe to look at it.
Oh my, it does look⦠odd. "How?" I mumble, brain aching as I try desperately to figure this out. "It's a mistletoe though! How could it look so odd!"
"Let me have a look" Wednesday quips, taking a few steps forward until she stands beneath it, her short arms having to stretch a longer distance than my own in order to 'fix' my 'mistake'.
I watch silently- just as Wednesday had done just minutes prior to her complete control over its appearance as she cautiously turns and bends certain parts of it.
"I feel like we weren't meant to touch it in the first placeβ¦" I groan, looking at it once again as Wednesday takes a step back.
Did Wednesday do a reasonably good job at 'fixing' it?
But it's still frustrating that it doesn't look perfect for our first Christmas together.
"Maybe" Wednesday mumbles, her eyes shifting from the hung plant to me "but it fulfils its purpose, doesn't it?"
"Yeah?" I say, still quite unsure of all of this as it looks almost depressed with how it's hung up on a simple thread and hook. Its life is to be wasted, to be used for its symbol of fertility- and although me and Wednesday do not wish for kids, it's still nice to have.
But I done this for a reason, I had ordered it and paid for it and I fully intend on using it for its intended purpose.
I step forward, my back straight as I shyly look into the endless cascade that serves as her eyes. I step forward until our heads greet the perimeter of the Mistletoe branches as it hangs a few inches above us.
"Now. What is it that you're supposed to do under one of these again?" I grin, earning a sigh of knowing defeat as she shakes her head disproving of my little trick.
"You know the answer better than I do" Wednesday grumbles, almost hugging herself out of coldness from the small gusts of winter air our heating has yet to tackle.
"But I want to hear it from you" I frown again, waiting for her response. I can practically see it sitting on the edge of her tongue, pounding on her inner lips to be freed from the pits of her gulped down confessions and desires.
"You- You're, y-you're meant toβ¦"
"Meant to what?" I edge on, knowing she'd rather be burnt at a witch trial than admit anything further than a mutual toleration for me.
"You're meant to⦠meant to⦠kiss" the last word left her mouth in nothing above a hushed whisper.
"We're meant to what? Fish?" I tease, feeling my heart begin to ache at the sight of her lifeless cheeks as they burn in a swirl of pink and red for her uncertain inclination.
"We're meant to kiss" she grumbles out.
"Kiss what?" I give her a toothy grin as she crosses her arms.
"You heard me, you know what I meant. Take it or leave it" she spits out, staring me down with a glare that was once intimidating but now just serves as a silver platter for her obviously denied love.
I hum, feeling inclined to do something before she walks away. "I thinkβ¦" I lean in, pampering her plush lips in a lengthy dab of a kiss before pulling away- grinning once more like a love sick fool.
Wednesday just stands still, her eyes particularly wide and lips hung slightly agape. Her cheeks burn even brighter and the tips of her rounded ears even turn colour too. Before I could memorise the look, however, she fixes her expression and stares me on.
"You can't just do that" Wednesday huffs, her upper lip twitching slightly in either a scowl or a smile.
