As I finished watching it today, another feeling came to me besides “how beautiful this portrayal of transgender experiences is” I feel like the dynamic between Nauls and Palmer in The Thing would really fit this TV Glow vibe well since I’ve headcanoned them as having a connection to queerness. Nauls is somewhat trans femme who hasn’t come out yet because it was incredibly difficult to be accepted as trans in the early ’80s, or even in earlier decades. And Palmer is most likely bisexual in a way that’s pretty blatant. He’s blunt enough to stand against anyone who doesn’t accept him for who he is, and he ends up responding to them with sarcasm.
