Setting boundaries does not make me a bad friend. Speaking up when I feel mistreated does not make me a bad friend. Walking away when I’ve communicated my feelings and been met with “well you’re just too sensitive, I’m not apologizing” does not make me a bad friend.

What makes a bad friend?

Trauma dumping on someone and forcing them to talk you down at 1/2/3/4am every night for weeks on end (including sending incredibly triggering images despite knowing that those things are triggering) without consent or apology or even a thank you for listening.

Calling someone a derogatory terms in place of their name consistently despite their constant requests for you to stop.

Complaining about how “overly sensitive” they are when they come to you for support and further invalidating them (despite all the emotional labor they provided for you).

Dumping your friendship and then denying any and all things they did for you so you can look like the good person.

Making your mutuals pick between you and them and accusing them of also being bad friends if they don’t cut the other person out completely.

Setting incredibly unhealthy boundaries (such as demanding they cut their friends out because you don’t like them or that they not interact with you in public or asking them to spy on others for you) or breaking boundaries that were already in place (such as inappropriate messages, photos, touching and bullying).

Victim blaming them as a way of making yourself feel bigger and to “win an argument.”

Talking about them behind their backs and telling everyone that they’re a terrible person to further isolate them.
