This is a portrait realized by Francisco Goya. I really want to talk more deeply about him, and I'll do surely in the future. He was absolutely a precursor of Romanticism. That’s why I don't want to focus on the subject, but more on the MO of the painter. He was living during Spain revolution and it really affects him. He didn't want to represent ”beauty”, there’s no space for that along with nature and history. Goya was, in its own way, a realistic painter. Far away from French realism, he didn't represent eternity. His artworks are elusive, like a flash in the pan. In this specific painting, he represents a young and stunning woman, who is posing fiercely knowing the power of her beauty. Although the painter is showing us that that is only an illusion because she's facing her imminent decadence.
