...You promised yourself you would try to find Toby. If not alive, at least know what happened to him. Shine looked to you almost disappointed, but you had a bad feeling about following gut instinct at this point.
And besides. Maybe he left you something. The last you had even "heard" from him was when he was seemingly dying from.. whatever happened here.

Shine's fur bristled as you realized that Beasts were nearby. Clicking tongues and the gurgling of blood, like a twisted call of an animal.
Maybe it was best to keep out of their sight, away from their stretching arms of animal bones and human ligaments, darkened and blackened with sludge.
You'd managed to shoot one's skull off with your Dad's shotgun, but the damn thing's head grew back. Shine hadn't known the layout of town quite well as she knew getting here, but at least the taller buildings were safe.
In fact, you'd actually met a few people. They weren't sane, god no. But even they were unsettled by what was happening, human meat rotting in unplugged fridges and monsters that cared not for the rules that had mattered to them for decades.
At least you had been able to ask them for directions. You felt bad leaving them behind, having been unable to help them as they rationed what little they had, but what COULD you have done, realistically?
..You had asked them where a Tobias Gunther or Marshall Gunther may have lived, and were pointed in the direction of a house with a rusted garage, beaten up and clearly unused for some time.
They mentioned sacrifices and how it was "A shame, those two boys", but you hadn't listened all the way. You wanted to see for yourself.
Thank god you and Shine had been able to outrun the Beasts that began chasing you. It was weird, almost as if they knew exactly where you were heading. Someone that clearly done with the madness had decided to throw a molotov at them, which had been great for distracting them and giving you time to investigate when you got there.
..Bad for the guy who you could only hear the faint screams of when you finally got to the house.
