so as much as I've really enjoyed the dog/fox hunt symbolism in the fandom, as a falconer who strives to fit falconry into anything i possibly can, i saw an opportunity. golden eagles have been used to hunt foxes for thousands of years in order to use their fur to make warm clothes for the winter.

depicting eva as a golden eagle just made sense in that case, and there's the fact that she's Dutch - the Netherlands have been at the centre of European falconry for centuries as they're a major migratory flyway for migrating raptors who would be trapped and then sold across the world to falconers, often world leaders and gentry.

i wanted to give a sense that while eva is hunting/having ryland hunted, she's as just much a captive in this situation too. birds in falconry are flown free and then tethered again, and once she's done being free, she'll be tethered and trapped too (literally going to prison). the eagle's jesses (the strips of material attached to her anklets) are the petrova line - she's always attached to the project.
