Hope is everywhere

Fullbody commission for my homie Kyrit, who DMs the campaign we play in together! This one is of my player-character Ishmael, sitting with the apparition of the child-version of his now adult (and estranged) daughter, Adara.

For some context: Ishmael is an old war general who has made many regrettable mistakes in his life. His most glaring regret is becoming a neglectful father after the death of his wife. He never hurt Adara, but he basically drowned so deeply in his own wallowing (and countless mugs of alcohol) he fucking fumbled the responsibility of caring for his kid. And that kid eventually grew tired of his shit, and ran away. This is the catalyst of him quitting cold turkey, cleaning himself up, and setting off on his journey to try and find his long lost daughter.

And lo and behold, he does in this campaign. But the reunion isn't pleasant. If anything it's just a painful wake up call to the depth of his fuck up, but luckily for him Adara is willing to give him a tentative chance at getting back in her good graces.

Things have been awkward since then, despite the peril of tromping about in Hell (we're playing Descent into Avernus), but shit happened and by circumstances they've been separated again. Amidst helping another of our party with saving her equally (if not moreso) estranged mother from both her place in Tiamat's ranks and the Arm of Vecna rotting at her, they take brief shelter in the wounded chapel of Elturel. While there they called upon a magical card given to them by a trusted(?) Rakshasa shopkeep, Cloudy Skies, so they could stock up on supplies before they continue their journey and reunite with Adara.

Except, Cloudy warned they'd be met by her "assistant" since she's elsewhere. And who is the assistant that's evoked? The visage of child Adara.

Now. Cloudy is known to offer contracts, deals much like that of a demon; in fact Ishmael once made a deal with Cloudy but managed to fulfill his contract before anything happened. I think. But we have no idea if this is a mean-spirited trick played by Cloudy, or a sign that Adara has had previous dealings with her in the past that we have no knowledge of; it's not like she's exactly forthcoming of what's gone down in the several years she ran away and made a life for herself.

My current theory (and Ishmael's too) is Adara potentially gave up a part of her memories to trade for something she deemed far more valuable. And Ishmael has seen strange instances in which Adara seems to call upon the spirit of her mother to fight alongside her; her movements are too uncanny to be just a Familiar with his wife's face, so... maybe?

But, it's not like Adara is there to ask right now. But as he looks at this wordless, smiling apparition of his child looking exactly the same way she did before he left for war: happy, carefree, not yet beaten down by the world, Ishmael is hit once again by how much he fucked up.

A bunch of sketches for some Super Mario headcanons! This context is based on an ask I got regarding whether or not Bowser could swim. Answer…. yes! He’s actually extremely good at it, able to swim very fast and hold his breath for hours at a time no problem. He makes for an excellent boat, in fact!

As seen in the images above:

1. Bowser rocking his son (and accidentally himself) to sleep for a nap in the royal pool. I like to think the castle has a huge, probably nature-themed swimming pool the Koopa family frequent, but it’s also a great way for Bowser to get Jr sleeping when the kid’s fussy or can’t seem to catch those elusive Zs. It’s a lot like how car rides can lull folks to sleep, just using her giant pops as a gently rocking raft. uwu

2 and 3. On their off days, the gang likes to hit the beach and just have a fun time, often with Bowser volunteering to either be the living boat or pull folks around for water skiing. For the 2nd image Bowser pulls the gals along as fast as he can! Peach doesn’t know how to waterski but her girlfriend Pauline does! :) In the 3rd image the king is chillin’ and sunbathes with the Bros. owo

Bowser Jr. loves Waffle Kingdom Bakery! Whenever he and his father visit Mushroom Kingdom they’re always sure to stop by and grab some of their very tasty treats. Jr really likes the tall green guy too, Luigi; he’s super nice and his mustache is cool and he always tells the best stories.

But Jr. isn’t naïve. He’s been noticing how weirdly his ba acts around green man. Red faced, stumb-ly words, shy. His ba is not shy. Maybe Bowser likes green man too?

But like… likes likes him. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…

Yes, Bowser's parents has definitely seen Jr and the koopalings, but their first meeting was also how Bowser first met them in 25 years lol.

Basically what happened:

As how they think of the kids, they definitely have more of a preference for Jr, since they're pretty old fashioned kind of royal koopas who would appreciate having their gene past down.

But even if all of Bowser's children were adopted, they wouldn't mind either way. With how long they've disappear, they're just glad that they can still left some marks on the world. More spawns means more people to spread chaos in their names :D
