“Thank you. The name is Mindy, by the way.”

That’s a lovely name. I’m Darcy, Darcy Lewis. 

“Some strange woman took part of my soul and changed me back to my old self,” he explained. It was still strange to him.

“She took part of your soul?” Darcy’s eyes grew wide. “What the... good god, are you okay?”

“Darcy,” he said, still shaken by the curse or whatever it was that changed him back to his old scrawny self. 

“Hey, are you...” Darcy blinked. She recognized him, but she didn’t quite understand what had happened to him. “What happened, Steve?”

“Thank you. I’d like my two bucks now.”

Haha, alright. Here you go, kid. 

“Three. You’re thinking three.”

Woah, nice job! That’s impressive.

“Of course you are my favorite! You are funny and a bad ass which is a double plus.”

Aww, Miles! You’re too sweet. So, tell me what else is going on. Other than just, you know, not trying to die. 

“Let’s play a game. Think about a number between one and ten and I try to find it.”

Okay, go.

Just the usual. Though it is usually interesting.

I imagine that it is for a lot of y’all. Sadly, I am less interesting. 

Aw, don’t sell yourself short. Pizza and netflix is awesome. And also most of what I do with my life. 

“This is not how the english language works, miss. It’s not a verb. Wow, that’s violent. I should do the same with Taylor Swift, but I think it would just make him more angry. My techniques are less violent.”

Hey, if I don’t get serious, that girl will go for days on end without sleep. And that kind of thing.... well, people don’t take it seriously. People like Jane, I mean. But it can really hurt you in the long run, especially when it’s combined with not getting any good food either. So I do what works. 

Just milk, no sugar? 

“Mine don’t include threats of tasers. But it’s not always working, I can tell you that. And please, don’t let Tony hear you use science as a verb. He will never stop saying it.”

Science can totally be a verb! Anything can be a verb if you make it one. And I’ll have you know that I never tasered Jane! I drove her out by refusing to play anything other than Ke$ha music at top volume once, but that was the extent of my violence. And I stopped as soon as she agreed to go to bed. 

“Oh the usual, trying not to die and stuff of that sort. And hows my favorite female bad-ass?”

Aww, Miles, I’m your favorite? I’m touched!

“Renaiisance, yes. Mostly, there is also a lot of choirs. It’s a beautiful sound, one I prefer infinitely.”

So I’m guessing that music here isn’t exactly your cup of tea? Things tend to be a lot les.... melodic, nowadays. 

“On the promise you not call it Space, I am willing to take you to Asgard to see my cutlure. We have much music, but not much you would know. Many lutes and mandolins.”

Is it not space? From what Jane’s said it’s, like, infinitely spacier. Magic space. Or, well, science, but I’m not gonna pretend to get that part. I can try and remember Asgard, though. That one I can pronounce, at least.
