-Could make any food prisoners can make with commissary. Her diet was mostly ramen and things you can get at a gas station. Took the occasional fruit or vegetable in the form of smoothies.

-Had to get several fillings and crowns put in because the decay in her teeth was so awful. Carried breath mints on her person of the time because hard foods hurt some days.

-Was well-liked among her group of recovering addicts and criminals, until she dragged them into one of her messes.

-Had been to every state at least once. Lived in several. Taissa called her like “where are you?” And she was like, “I’m at the Mexican border.” Brought Misty back bird themed souvenirs when she saw them.

-Smelled oddly comforting. Like smoke and cheap perfume. Had a certain brand for everything she used her whole life, unless she was using those little motel shampoos.

-Put things she wasn’t supposed to in her mouth as a toddler and never dropped the habit. (Semi-canon, gasoline, goldfish.)

Natalie Theresa Scatorccio (past tense)

-Has that weird ability mothers have where they can smell when a person is sick. She purposefully avoids hugs from people who smell like burning hair. Practically forces orange juice on Callie whenever it happens even if Callie doesn’t feel unwell yet.

-Doesn’t even need to yell most of the time. She just has this stare of disappointment that makes people want to cry. Someone will be out of line and she just gives them the ☹️ and it saps the will from the worst of humanity.

-Will do mostly anything to not participate in Callie’s school stuff. Callie so much as utters the words ‘fundraiser’ or ‘event’ and all of the sudden Shauna’s like, “I have a headache, I need to do spring cleaning, I’m tired, my back hurts, I need to wash dishes and do laundry, I’m busy making dinner. 😐”

-Felt no need to censor herself with her daughter. Callie would ask questions and Shauna would go into way more gory details than a little kid should hear. Before Callie was allowed to go outside on her own, she got an in depth explanation of the trafficking industry.

-On that note, had no idea how to do baby talk. Straight up looked into her infant child’s face and said stuff like “mommy is going to kill someone and then herself if Mrs. Taylor doesn’t shut up”, and Callie would kind of make small noises like she got it.

-Used to tell Callie they’d leave home and go live somewhere else together, then Callie got scared when she was about five and told Jeff. Shauna didn’t let Callie near her for a long time after that, and she never let Callie be in her bed again.

We know that Natalie’s family was heavily Catholic, but Natalie was cremated. This is permitted in the Catholic Church, but they usually prefer to bury their dead. And then there’s the picture that was used to represent her, which was a picture of when she was probably not even seven years old. When Natalie’s mother talks about her, it’s as she was as a small child. And then the flowers selected for it were pink and blue, which are colors typically associated with babies and little girls. If you didn’t read the dates, you would assume that you were going to the funeral of a little girl, not a full grown woman. How much do you want to bet Natalie’s ashes are in one of those baby pink urns with the angel wings? Personally, I think that Vera Scatorccio couldn’t stand to look in the face of her own child, because she knew she’d failed time and time again and didn’t want to feel that guilt.

She seems like, ridiculously bored with being a housewife, but now that her husband left she’s 42 years old with no job experience as far as we’re aware in the early 2020s job market. Obviously she can’t pay her bills, unless Jeff’s just occasionally sending her money. She doesn’t have any friends to stay with. Like, Taissa and Misty have jobs (Taissa still has money from her law thing, I mean. She could always go with the crashing with her mother option, if Deb is still alive. I could not see Shauna trying to enter the job market. If anyone has ideas, I’d love to hear it.

I don’t know, maybe I’m reaching, but like, nine months…Shauna’s second pregnancy…rivalry…wilderness trauma…

In the pilot, Natalie throws a bottle at the back of a moving car on a whim. By this, it is established that Natalie possibly has a bad temper or that she’s used to acting quickly. In the original series pitch, she joined the Yellowjackets to avoid being suspended/expelled for some kind of mystery event that was meant to be revealed later on.

I feel like this made sense for her backstory. She was raised in a trailer park, being taken care of by a violent man. She ended up losing her temper and screaming at him, and he shot himself by mistake trying to retaliate against her. Rage makes sense. We don’t exactly become our parents, but they make up so much of us.

I think Natalie’s character is a good example of passive violence overall, but I would have liked there to be more moments where she snapped at people. I love characters that are stuck in their anger, but when things get extremely violent they balk and step away. I also think it would make her a more realistic, gray character, allowing her to clash with Shauna more easily.

It’s confirmed Shauna’s going to die, and there’s no way Melissa is sticking around that long. Misty seems like she’s going down a rocky path with the alcohol and all her impulsive actions. Taissa’s strong and willful. She has a motive. She has social and economic power. Her being final girl would be an amazing callback to Van joking in season 1 that Taissa would be first to do because she was the skeptic. She was one of the few that didn’t buy into all the wilderness insanity. Aside from all that, how iconic would it be to have a WOC be final girl? I don’t remember ever seeing that in any horror media in my life.

Like, Shauna apparently had some kind of plot where she had a thing with Callie’s boyfriend, but Melanie Lynskey didn’t want to play a PDF for the second time in her acting career so she had them rewrite it.

And also Natalie had some gross thing going on with her dad? He says something to her like “I just wanted to give you a kiss goodnight” that was so creepy and suggestive, and then I think there was some kind of reference to blood, like bleeding after what he did to her. It’s just crazy to me that Yellowjackets could have been so much more gross and creepy.

Natalie knows how to cut up Adam. She volunteers to help Shauna do so, because Shauna taught her how to do it with Ben. She made Natalie the new butcher. They seem somewhat hostile towards each other in the adult timeline, but Natalie’s not, like, cowering away from Shauna or avoiding her, and Shauna doesn’t seem like she wants to hurt Natalie. She still goes to Natalie’s funeral, and still remarks on how messed up the whole thing was. She worries about what people would say at her funeral because she knows that she and Natalie are a lot alike.

I’m thinking that two things have to happen. I think Shauna has to get better, at least on the outside because her insides are too far gone, and Natalie has to get a lot worse. Natalie’s had a strong moral compass for the whole show, so I think it would be really interesting to see that deteriorate either waiting for rescue or after it. Shauna’s holding a lot back. So maybe she just breaks down on Natalie. Things heal better when they’re fully broken sometimes.

-She’s so bad at social cues. Like, she gets on Misty for missing them all the time, but she’s just as bad if not worse.

-When she was a kid she had some kind of snake or lizard from outside that she kept as a pet until her mother stepped on it by accident. She laughed it off in front of her mother then cried all week.

-Humor is a coping mechanism. As long as people are laughing, they’re not fighting or yelling. And if she can keep her mother distracted, that’s a plus.

-She’s a nervous laugher. She can’t go to funerals or libraries or anywhere quiet like that because she’ll start laughing and not be able to stop.

-She started to have really bad panic attacks after Mari’s. The first time Taissa was there for one, Van almost passed out because she was trying so hard to make Taissa smile instead of look at her with so much sadness in her eyes and she just kept talking and laughing.

-Her father left when she was little. Her mother has a new boyfriend like, every week and not all of them are safe to be around so she crashes with Mari, Natalie, or Taissa after they got close.

-Had an atrocious haircut in late elementary school or early middle school. She’s still teased about it.

-Movies are a time occupier. Her mother had to work and Van would be home alone a lot, so she’d watch TV way more than any little kid should.

-She’d rather embarrass herself looking like an idiot than have people cry for her.

This scene got my attention because she almost seems to tense up when Tobias brings up how she and her husband met, then only slightly annoyed when Tobias clarifies. I’m thinking that Luther knows something about his mother that the rest of the characters don’t, and that’s why she tolerates him cuddling up to her like a little kid when he greets her. Maybe that’s why he calls her more regularly than Lucas does.

If I’m right, this bonding probably happened while Luther was still a teenager or a young adult. Maybe she stepped up when he was in his drug habit or something. She did go to the chief of police’s house when he got into trouble and I don’t doubt that she would have done something to help along his rehab.

Rehab or prison? No problem. She’s sneaking in some candy somehow. Natalie’s in some remote hotel in another state? Misty has trackers in Natalie’s shoes. She’s showing up. This probably started as some throwaway conversation about how neither Misty or Natalie celebrated these holidays growing up, or if they did, it wasn’t very consistent.

Natalie wakes up the next morning on Easter to Misty, rabbit ears included, making them both breakfast. She thinks she’s hallucinating until hours pass and Misty isn’t disappearing or anything. Since then, Misty has managed to push her way onto Natalie’s calendar for every single holiday. Natalie slept by the door one Christmas to catch Santa-Misty in the act, and Misty came through the window instead.

Bonus-After Natalie passes, Misty brings a school picture of her and goes out to brunch. She invites Taissa, who shows up because she has nothing else to do with herself. To be nice, Misty printed out a photo of teenage Van as well, which Taissa found extremely offputting and distressing, but stayed with Misty anyway because she couldn’t bring herself to walk out.

Shauna’s seen Jackie multiple times, and it’s usually when it’s cold, allowing Shauna to feel a fraction of what she must have felt. Lottie saw Laura Lee during a high stress situation (watching Travis be lifted up) so maybe her motif would be appearing during those important moments where a person has to make a quick decision between life or death?

Misty saw Natalie in the bar mirror while she was drinking. Both of these things could be linked to Natalie, both her struggles with addiction, and Misty’s attempts to “mirror” her after her death by acting tougher and more bold. Misty seems like she’s on a downward spiral. Honestly, the way things are going, she might be the last alive but I don’t see her staying alive.

Taissa has not had a Van hallucination yet, but I’m thinking it could be something to do with technology. Like, Taissa could talk to her through the phone or see her on tv. As I’m typing this, I have in mind a really creepy scene where Taissa’s watching tv and the ice cream commercial comes on, but Van’s in it somehow? And Taissa just freaks out.
