Final 2 min film - Distractions
This is just to show what the footage of the grad assist project looked like before and after I worked on it. All the footage given to me before was my third year director Ezra's.
In this project we had to work with the year above us, working on their film. It was a useful insight into what it might be like to work for a studio as the third year was like the director and we were their helpers. I was given footage to rotoscope onto in Photoshop and animated the bearskin hat in the video. This is the final animation footage that I worked on.

These are screenshots to show the actual process of how i animated this bearskin hat. I started out with the clean footage and chose the ‘Oil pastel soft 2′ brush to draw the base shape of the hat in the colour black to get an idea of the positioning and size. I then chose the ‘Clump fur 1′ brush and went around the edges in black also, to add more of a fluffy look to the hat and make it less blob like. I then chose the ‘Oil pastel soft 2′ again but with a light grey colour, this is so that i could add some lighting to the hat to give it more dimension and look less flat. Also the real bearskin hats are a slightly light greyish colour when actually in well lit areas. Finally i chose the ‘BristleFur’ brush over the top of everything and made it slightly transparent, this was to add some nice texture and really finish the look of the hat.
250 Word Review Grad Assist
This project has been very interesting into seeing what it’s like to work for someone else on their own project. It helps to see what it might be like in the future as an animator working on a company or studios project. As well as what it’s like to work with a director and not be a director myself. I found it very useful to be able to take critisism and be directed and shown how someone else envisions their project. I worked on Ezra’s project. He gave me about a minute of cut footage and was told to animate a bearskin hat on top of the film. I could use whatever brushes i felt captured the look of the hat, but was given a basic colour scheme that he wanted to use. I went ahead and started with a black base of the hat shape and animated it over the top to begin. I then went around the edges with a fur/bristly brush to give it more of a hat texture around the edge and give it more of a fluffy look. I thirdly added highlights with the same brush as the base but in a lighter grey colour, as I was told. And finally I made the choice of adding a fur texture over everything, then making it slightly transparent. Whem i was finished with one scene I showed ezra my work and he was very happy with the results, liked all the brushes and especially liked the fur texture I added over everything to finalise the look. Overall I’m very satisfied with how the project worked out. Me and Ezra did keep in contact but it was more of a just get on with it as he gave me enough work from the start and liked what i had created. One thing I would say is that this project has clashed with the 2 minute film one and i feel like i would have liked more time to work on my main project and not focus on this one. It might be better to just make this project an intensive week one so that everyone can just go and get it done and out of the way.
Animation Principles Workshop all animations for CRIT
These are my final backgrounds for my 2 min film.
This is Richard Condie’s film ‘Getting Started’, which I have used as research material since it has great timing in showing someone who is very distracted with their task they need to complete.

This is the push and pull box animation. Unfortunately because of the unorganised schedule of this project during the last weeks and the fact it overrun our other projects, I was unable to fully complete the animation to be designed as the character and use all the animation principles, because I was so busy with other work. However I did manage to finish the character pushing and pulling a box as requested.
Above is my schedule in detail. I’ve made sure I have given myself enough time to complete everything to the best quality I can and organised everything clearly so that I can plan my work and time effectively so that I will not fall behind.
Here are my character designs and profiles. I only really have two characters, the red one being the main character and the grey one representing all the office workers as a very generic robotic character. My characters are very basic as the story of the film will be a bit of a distracting mess so I decided I wanted to keep the characters simple so that I could focus more on their actions than their designs. I also just wanted them to be these very funny looking genderless blobs as I feel it fits very well with the overall feel and look of this animation.
Here is some key art to show what my final film should eventually look like. I have decided to go with a mixed media approach, but instead of using stop motion I will instead be using after effects to replicate the look of paper animation by using digitally cut out photos and moving them through the program. The look im going for is a mix of photomontage and 2D digital, this is so that the 2D characters stick out more, but I also just generally like the overall aesthetic of these styles mixed together.
Showreel for the second year of uni to show the third years my work in order for them to see if they want to work with me for a collaberative project.

2 Minute Film Animatic,
Above are some very basic mind maps to help come up with way in which my character can be distracted and the way he can show his anger. After the critical I have ended up going with more annoying distractions that will make my character very angry as he is very busy and trying to do his work.
