Link gets a text from Rhett. hey. come outside.

Link goes out and sees a little package on his doorstep, a cardboard box sealed with tape. Rhett is standing at his car a ways off. 

“Hey man!“ 

“Hey.” Rhett gestures to the package. “Brought you somethin’.“ 

“You bringin’ me more toilet paper? Beans? Providin’ for me in my time of need." 

Rhett chuckles. "Somethin’ like that. Go on and open it." 

Link picks up the box, shakes it – nothing. It barely weighs anything. He peels off the tape and opens it up. 

”… Rhett, is this…“ Link sets the box back on the doorstep and pulls out Rhett’s cactus sweater. It’s soft, freshly laundered, but it smells like Rhett is in his arms. 

The thing that bugs me is that they didn’t contact the authors, even just to give them a heads up that their fic would be used, much less to ask permission. I know some authors are ok with it, but some aren’t and both reactions are valid. 

For me, it irks me that it seems like Randl/Mythical are lurking around the shipping fandom. They used to have a tumblr and would interact with fans here, but have since abandoned that blog/tumblr all together. And since then it seems like most shipping content has stayed here, while twitter/instagram, etc are pretty free of that kind of content. 

I am of the opinion that that is a good thing. It makes it feel like this is kind of a safe space for us to share it out of their eye. So, for them to be hanging out reading fics with the intention of reading them to millions of people without actually having a public presence here/interacting with this side of the fandom feels…weird. 

We all try pretty hard to keep shipping content out of their faces and be respectful about it, I’d think that that respect should be returned. Like, at least come back to tumblr and see the amazing community that’s here before you poke fun at us.

“What? I kissed Amber!”

“I kissed her too!”

Rhett’s eyes went wide as his hand came up to his forehead.

“We kissed the same girl?!”

“Well, not at the same time.”

“Sure, bo. Like that makes a difference,” Rhett scoffed. He crossed his arms and scowled.

“What’s wrong? Are...are you mad I kissed her?”

“Wha—no! I just…” Rhett sighed. “It’s fine, bo. She’s pretty. I guess it’s not that surprising.”

Link cast his eyes down, picking at his nails. He whispered something unintelligible.

“What’d you say?”

“How’d you get her to kiss you?”

“Oh,” Rhett said, surprised. “Um, you know. She couldn’t resist the McLaughlin charm.”

Link rolled his eyes. “Whatever, man. If you don’t want to tell me—“

“I don’t know how to explain it, honestly.”

Link sat there, still waiting for a better answer than what Rhett had given.

“Well, what about you?” Rhett said defensively.

“What about me?”

“How’d you convince her to kiss you?”

Link’s eyebrows knitted in thought. After a moment, he shrugged his shoulders in defeat.

“See? It’s not easy to describe.”

“Well...show me.”

Rhett blinked owlishly at Link. “What?”

“Show me how you convinced her to kiss you.”

“No!”

“Fine. I’ll show you how I convinced her.”

Rhett paused. Honestly, he knew how Link convinced her. He was a good looking guy. A lot of girls liked him, but he never seemed interested in them. He was happy hanging out with Rhett. And, to be honest, that was just fine to Rhett.

“Fine,” Rhett said.

Link pulled himself to his knees, motioning Rhett to do the same, facing one another. Once Rhett was in position, Link compelled Rhett to look into his eyes as his hand cradled Rhett’s cheek. Rhett had never spent much time actively staring into Link’s eyes, but he was captivated by them. They were such a vibrant, icy blue and were always so clear. But, in this moment, his pupils were blown out as he stared at Rhett, his gaze taking in every inch of Rhett’s face. Rhett could feel a blush creeping on his face under Link’s attention. Once he felt like he was about to break, the corner of Link’s mouth quirked up into a smile and Rhett could feel his heart clench. What is happening?

Slowly, Link leaned forward, his eyes now focused on Rhett’s. He stopped just short of Rhett’s lips and Rhett could feel the warm breath ghosting on his skin. Senses overloaded, Rhett couldn’t stop himself from closing the distance, placing a small, chaste kiss on what he found to be Link’s impossibly soft lips.

A small sound of surprise came from Link’s throat, but he added his own pressure to Rhett’s lips. They broke away and leaned back, both blushing.

Link chanced a glance at Rhett and gave a nervous chuckle. Rhett’s hand flew to the back of his neck, rubbing it.

“That’s so stupid,” Rhett muttered. Link’s eyes fell back to his lap and Rhett pulled his lower lip between his teeth, still tasting Link there.

Why do it yourself when you have a perfectly good boyfriend to do it. :D
