“I saw you flirting at the bar,” Cat says even before he has time to hand her the drink. 

“I wasn’t flirting.” He rolls his eyes. “I was just being nice.”

“You could though. Josh is a good guy.”

He looks at her incredulously. 

“Weren’t you just telling me that I should be with Alec?”

“I was. But you don’t seem to be on board with the idea.” She looks at him, raising an eyebrow. He stays silent. “Magnus, if you’re not going to be with Alec, then try being with someone else. You deserve love.”

He tilts his head at her.

“I have you. Maybe we can just be fabulous and grow old together.”

“Don’t take it too personally, but I would go insane if I had to live with you.”

Chapter 1 - The Universe

“What's stopping you now?” Rafe asks. 

“M-m?” Magnus looks up at them, a little lost in his memories. “What do you mean?”

“What we mean,” Max says, “is that you two should get back together.”

Magnus almost chokes on air. “It's not for you to decide.”

“But you'd want that, wouldn't you?” His son grins.

There are only two steps between them. After all these times, after all these years, when Magnus used to think he would never see him again, they're right here, so close, it would take only these two little steps for Magnus to touch him. 

He feels his hand shake as he tries to find the Uber app. 

“Can I ask you something?”

“Of course.” He snaps his head up. 

"Do you remember what you said?" Alec asks. "You said that if we're meant to be, we'll meet again."

"Yes."

"Did you truly believe that?"

Magnus is silent for a second, with Alec's eyes locked on his. 

“Magnus, please,” Alec begs. 

Max and Rafe look up at them in curiosity. 

“Alec—”

“We agreed to get a dog!”

Their children, now understanding what is happening, run closer, squeaking. 

Magnus pinches the bridge of his nose. 

“Alec, you're an interesting person,” Aline observes. “You go to Vegas and come home with a husband. You go to Buenos Aires and come home with a child. Now you go to Hawaii and want to bring back a dog?”

Alec gives his friend a look. Magnus actually chuckles at that.
