Doing a bit of a deep dive tonight on analog television technology, and came across this short featurette about a man who owns and maintains 2 of the 10 ever-made analog motion graphics machines.

Couple of things that I liked:

Wild that that’s how graphics were made before computers that were cheap and powerful enough to do graphical work.

It’s so cool to watch someone passionate.

The bit about discard culture is pointed. I’ve been looking at my own consumption, and how I can be better at reusing and maintaining things. Obviously, I can’t reengineer an iPhone to make it last forever, so technology will remain sadly disposable to some extent. I pretty much keep all my electronics and use them past their usable age, but inevitably I have to upgrade. But, there are other things—clothes, cars, furniture, etc.—that can realistically last my entire lifetime.
