DARKLENSE CHAPTER 1, LETS MEET BARRY!!! TW: Trauma, medical malpractice, albeism, transphobia.
Life as a college student isn't kind to those who aren’t like others, especially when you’re a giant autistic science nerd who is touch repulsed and anti-social. But Barry didn't seem to have much of an issue with the lack of socialization, or friends, but that was mostly because Barry wasn’t interested in them in the first place.
But Barry still tried his best in what he liked and enjoyed, but slowly all his work chipped away at him, along with his multitude of issues such as, His testosterone being denied by his insurance, Slowly disconnecting with his family over religion, And slowly becoming more and more desensitized to solitude , But Barry would later learn to yearn for this time, this time where even with all the lows he was still safe, still unaware.
And this is how he came to be sitting here, in the Wedon nursing facility waiting room, sitting next to an around 50 year old cat mammaling, male, a diluted brown in color with sharp orange eyes and a dark brownish red nose, their sweater a scratchy texture and maroon in color, the cat noticed Barry glance , and looked on in aggressive worry.
“...Don’t listen to what they tell you, kid. It can get better, but only if you can LET it be, they’ll hurt you when they get their shot, and hurt others like you, so heed my word, never. Give. in. before its too-”
The cat fell off their chair in a daze as a broom was thrown at its head, the cat mammaling let out a sharp yowl as contact was made, causing them to run to the door, the one who threw the broom was a small porcupine woman, around 40 in age, a light teal and baby blue in colors, and they wore big round glasses.
“GETTOUT, GETTOUT ye damned man! We told’ja to scram LAST FUCKING WEEK! SO GETTOUT!”
The man scrambled for the door, rushing out as the porcupine chased him, she stopped as she got down the stone steps to the clinic, letting him run on the side walk, she grunted, grumbling under her breath as she came back in.
“Gah…don’t you mind him none, he’s just .. a loon, we’ve tried to help him but..pay him no mind, he’s just some bum you can’t help.”
Barry was frozen in his chair, brain still processing the incident, but the woman quickly pulled him away before he could even ask about what that was and make his thoughts clear.
“Anyways, just gettin here, i need 30 minutes to get ready, kay? So just, stay here.” *She ushered him to a room, making him sit on a medical table, “And dont strip, we dont need nunna that–..nevermind.”
And so, the exam was about to begin, leading to the first incident in a long line of many for Barry.
