I need to kill you, NEED. Not want.

This word is so important imo. There’s a difference between need and want. A need is that thing you have to do. We all have to eat, or else we’ll die. Sasuke believes that he HAS to kill Naruto because Naruto is the only one who can change his mind/stop him. It really seems as though he feels there is no alternative. Ergo, he says ‘need’.

Want is a different beast entirely. Want = desire.

Want is something he would 'like to do’. He doesn’t say 'I want to kill you. I would like to see you dead,’ and this is Sasuke, if he wanted it then he wouldn’t be shy about saying it. Instead when Naruto says 'You still want to kill me’, Sasuke actually corrects him with: ’I need to kill you’.  It’s no longer about him wanting his best (and only) friend to die. It’s a means to an end that Sasuke sees as the only option.

During the Chunin Exams, when they enter the Forest of Death and they’re attacked by an impostor so Sasuke comes up with that codeword in case they get split up and they meet up again, they know there’s an impostor among their team…

The codeword goes on forever and while Sakura quickly memorizes it, Naruto’s sort of bummed out that he definitely won’t be able to remember it…

So they end up getting split and by the time theyre able to gather again, Sasuke asks for the codeword and…

He knows “Naruto” is really an impostor because he is able to remember the codeword, meaning he’d made it that long and complicated on purpose, knowing that Naruto wouldn’t be able to remember it?
