okay. OKAY. you know what i think the fandom needs more of?
logan calling patton nicknames
itâs not. like. a conscious thing at first?
legit it starts when lo accidentally makes a pun about patton being virgilâs dad
which he will swear to his dying day that he did not intend as a pun
but anyway, patton first hears it and reacts as he usually does when logan makes a pun
(ie, squealing excitedly)
he realizes that while logan was saying said pun, he called patton âpatâ
pattonâs face promptly splits into the absolute WIDEST grin, and he immediately breaks off the squealing to go absolutely quiet
logan, who is not expecting this sudden absence of loud noises, glances over at him
and patton just looks at him like heâs the most wondrous thing in the world, and slowly, softly, breathes
logan, naturally, waffles awkwardly between denying such a thing ever happened and being like â???? why is that important???â
(lmao itâs hella awkward and virgil, whoâs witnessed this whole ordeal, is killing himself laughing)
but finally logan gathers his wits enough to say something along the lines of âbut i donât get it. why would me calling you a- a nickname produce such a reaction?â
and pat just gives a kinda helpless shrug and, still smiling gently, casually replies âwell, i dunno! guess i just like itâ
and from then on, logan notices something⊠odd occurring in his speech patterns
his grammar is impeccable as usual. his attempts at using a more modern vernacular have the same 20/80 success rate they always do. his speech is still con and precise
every once in a while, he finds himself calling patton⊠nicknames
at first they were rather innocuous: âpatâ, and the like
but since then, to loganâs increasing annoyance, theyâve become much moreâŠ. teasing. joking.
âand whatâs mr. morality up to?â
âFINE, f i n e, call in the nice one, i donât c a r eâ
âpat? patton? patsicle? patty-cake?â
it is INFURIATING. he canât STOP.
he blames this entirely on roman. heâs not sure how, mind you. but somehow this is romanâs fault
(one time, they were debating the merits of different kinds of sweeteners. he nearly called patton âsweetheartâ. he realized where the sentence was going about halfway through said word, and abruptly broke into a furious coughing fit. he maintains the redness in his face was from lack of oxygen. virgil and roman arenât convinced)
and then, of course, thereâs the effect this whole affair is having on patton
because every time logan uses (and he shudders at the thought of calling it this, but he doesnât see another appropriate term) a pet name
patton just absolutely melts
his hands fly to his cheeks, or his mouth. his gaze goes soft, and his eyes widen. heâll sometimes run a hand through his hair, or bite his bottom lip. and heâll just
something will snap him out of it after a few seconds, whether it be a brisk shake of the head (to figuratively clear it, logan thinks with some amusement), a dry cough from virgil, a boisterous comment from roman, or a throat-clearing from logan himself as he attempts to disarm the situation by abruptly changing the subject
but the fact remains that these moments occur when â and only when â logan calls him nicknames
(itâs a completely different reaction when any of the others do it, some smugly satisfied part of logan notes. the soft gaze is reserved for him and him alone. this part of his mind is, naturally, immediately beaten down into some dark corner and promptly abandoned for dead)
anyways, please consider awkward, flustered, lovely logan just instinctively giving patton nicknames and pet names please and thank you
(and. uh. if at one point logan accidentally calls him sweetheart again? and if patton, very carefully, very casually replies with âyeah, dear?â?)
(well, then thatâs no oneâs business but their own)
