You’re not going to see a lot of site updates for a while, since we’re hard at work on the next game. Somewhere in there, we’ll probably do an overhaul of this site, so that the front-page doesn’t sit there looking boring and un-updated.

We’re not talking much about Spartan Fist for now, except to say that it’s about punching dudes so hard they explode. First-person melee brawler, procedural world generation, hitting sometime in 2016. We’re using Unreal Engine 4, if you were curious. We’ll talk more about it when we have more to talk about.

So until then…

This is a picture of the “Hot Tin Roof” restaurant, an actual restaurant that annoyingly pops up when searching for our game. Or at least it was. Now it’s the canon restaurant inside Ossified Egg, behind the door that the Concierge won’t let you use. THIS IS WHAT AWAITS.

This is a shot from one of the veeerrrry first areas in the game. Cozy, eh?

This doesn’t look like much, until you notice who ISN’T in the shot. Game gets really lonely feeling when you disable Franky.

This is a save point. There are random inter-dimensional portals to a pristine bathroom. It’s like Ernest Hemingway’s “clean, well-lit place” but for doing your business. We originally thought about theming the bathrooms to the regions / making them be “just the bathrooms locals used,” but creating an iconic single bathroom turns out to really amp up that “oh thank GOD a save point!” feeling, kinda like the Yorda couches in Ico.

This is what we’re doing right now – tweaking the mess that is the world we’ve created. It all plays great, but in edit mode, it’s… a tad incomprehensible. Behold, the view most of the team will have for the next month!

Getting our backer reward characters right has been a bit tricky. In this case, the backer sent us a picture of him in a black coat, light pants, dark top – so this is how we transformed him into a Boxian. Is it precise? Well, no, because Boxians lack important things like… noses, or mouths, or legs for that matter. Noir doesn’t include a concept of t-shirts, either. But hopefully, he’s able to see enough there to have the lightbulb go off in his head.

This isn’t an area that’ll be in the final game, or at least not a whole area – it was me experimenting with bashing tilesets into eachother. This is our Old World tileset alongside our Industrial tileset, which gives the impression of an industrialized portion of Old World. Kinda neat! (Ignore that programmer art light sconce though)

This isn’t the only console version we’re working on, but it happened to be the first devkit we got, so, wa-hey!
