— BIG BALLER TEXT MESSAGES 3
guys ik i’ve been saying for awhile the fic is coming……… i guess we’ll never know. BUT! big baller is my only inspo rn so maybe we’ll get there some day..! 😀
— the first few initial weeks of getting to know each other were.. interesting, to say the least. paige was very up your ass, in her classic paige way. always asking if you wanted help, even for the small things. it could be help with making your own dinner, help with unpacking, help navigating around the building, she even asked if you wanted help with starting the shower for the first time. you said no but laughed it off in a way that made paige think you wanted her bad. (you did).
— nika was different. she’d only talk to you in passing and it genuinely made you question if she even wanted you here. like, you’re well into week three of having moved in with them and you only know her name and that she plays basketball. unbeknownst to you, she stalks your instagram at night and knows plenty about you, so what’s the point in asking you questions to pretend she doesn’t know?
— it was paige’s idea to get you all in a group chat together, just in case, she said. next thing you know, your phone is getting blown up every single night after their practice by paige asking if you want or need anything for dinner, and nika replying telling her to leave you alone.
— after two months of living with them, you’re formally invited to one of their games in a nice section where you’ll actually be able to see. there’s no turning it down, clearly, by the look on paige’s face. it wasn’t quite what you had been expecting, honestly. you’d think they were opponents if not for their matching uniforms; not passing to each other or congratulating the other after a goal. they get into a fight afterwards in the locker room, nika pushing paige around and berating her for trying too hard to show off. it’s safe to say things were pretty stale in the dorm for a few days afterwards, and you weren’t ever cued in as to why.
— after it becomes clear to paige that nika is also into you, something in the air shifts specifically between you and the brunette. she’s talking to you on a regular basis now, doing little things that surprisingly go unnoticed by paige for awhile. it wasn’t until all three of you were in the kitchen and nika brushed passed you, hand just centimeters above the curve of your ass, that paige realized the silent competition.
— it’s a late night, everyone had retrieved to their own rooms well over an hour ago. you were busy contemplating sleep or reading when a soft knock sounded through the door into your ears. it’s nika, laptop and chem books in hand asking you to help her with homework. she describes a sense of urgency, but it doesn’t reflect in her slow movements and silky voice. you can’t help but say yes, welcoming her into your sacred space. you spend hours together that night, but it only took you one to help her get her homework finished.
— one day you and paige both happen to get out of class early. she comes up with the grand idea to take you to lunch which you happily accept. she’s not interested much in the food though, mostly just you, and she asks you about a million questions. she pays for everything, typical, subtly flexing her deep bank account. she even more subtly asks about your dating life, which is inactive at the moment. oh, she thinks. all she can think about is how that makes things 10x easier for her.
— they’ll both break the rules for you, even if it risks their college basketball careers. the first time you asked if they wanted to join you for a recreational smoke, they hesitated for less than five seconds. you weren’t even aware it went against the drug regulations they faced. they didn’t think mentioning it was important.
— paige is constantly asking to help you make your dinner. even if she knows she’s not gonna eat it (you always offer her some) she’s more than happy to sweat standing over the stove and cook whatever it is you’re making. she pretends she doesn’t know certain things so she can listen to you explain it. really she just likes being around for when you can’t reach something.
— you see nika more often in the early mornings. your monday and wednesday classes start before the sun rises usually, and nika is right there with you in the morning. she has an early class too, but she’ll risk being late to walk with you to yours first. it’s something about getting you alone that makes the air on her arms raise, and she’s slowly working up the courage to grab your hand while you walk together.
— things eventually get complicated. you can’t figure out your feelings, because what do you mean you’re crushing on both your roommates? there’s a passing that about that being unhealthy, and with a lack of hope of it going anywhere with either of them, you sort of look elsewhere. there’s a girl in your new spring semester class that starts to show interest in you, and you’re definitely not shying away from it.
so imagine nika and paige’s shock when you come home talking about it..!

If we want a garden
We're gonna have to sow the seed
the thick summer breeze wafted through your hair, its gust keeping you cool in the heightened temperature of july. the hot sun beat on your exposed skin despite the welcomed wind, the warmth sending small trickles of sweat down your neck. your toes sunk into the dirt as you waded barefoot through the garden as you always did. although this time, you were followed by a smaller, toddler sized set of bare feet.
yours and kate's daughter skipped closely behind you, watching as you pulled the weeds and sifted through the rocks and soil of your beloved garden. she was happy to help, kneeling down next to you with a wicker basket as she collected the weeds you tugged from the ground. her infectious giggle ringing throughout the yard when you'd tickle her nose with the long strands of grass before discarding them. it warmed your heart to share this with her, your garden no longer your own but your daughters as well. she would beg you to take her whenever you put your linen apron on, knowing you'd be going to the garden and wanting to come along. and you always obliged when you'd see her round blue eyes staring longingly at you, a look she had gotten from kate no doubt. she was just like her mother, glued to your hip.
you had found that she loved to watch the potato bugs and caterpillars crawl across the leaves of the flowers and herbs, shouting out in excitement for you to come see. you'd smile, coercing the bugs into your hand and letting them crawl into hers. her chubby fingers lightly prodded at them as she studied the various textures and colors eagerly. you also loved to teach her the names of all the plants, what they did and when they came into bloom. you'd teach her how to sound out the harder names with each syllable, clapping your hands along as she sounded out each one. you had to admit that part of you wanted her to share this love for plants as deeply as you did.
"alright, ella" you huffed, tossing the last weed into the basket and hoisting yourself off the muddy earth "it's time to go find your mom and the boys, any ideas?"
she grinned at you, front teeth missing and arms extended outwards in want of your embrace. and unable to say no, you lifted her up and placed her on your side. with her being your only daughter, you found it easier and easier each day to give in to her every request. while you loved your boys more than words could describe, you were happy to have a miniature version of you running around the house. there would always be a soft spot in your heart for rolls of pink ribbon, little floral dresses, and tea parties.
"did mama tell you where she was going this morning?" you asked her again as you carried her out and the garden.
"uh huh" she nodded matter-of-factly. she pointed over to the withered red barn across the yard, a finger from the other hand toying gently with your earlobe "horsies!"
you chuckled under your breath, catching the hint that kate had taken the boys out to feed the horses this morning. so, you began your journey, a giggly three-year-old on your side as you left your basket of weeds at the gate.
the red and white doors of the barn croaked as you shoved them open, their rusted hinges barely keeping them up, but the noise didn't seem to be enough to grab kate's attention. you took advantage of your unplanned secrecy, putting a finger to your lips to urge ella to be quiet. you offered each other sneaky smiles before slipping silently through the doors.
you had spotted kate near the stables, your two sons next to her as they finished up their morning routine. despite you not being able to hear her from such a distance, you were able to make out the movements of her lips are she told the boys to go put away a few supplies. a perfect opportunity, you thought, as you both hid behind a nearby wall. you whispered a command to ella as you set her down, then giving her a nudge to move in kate's direction. it took all you had to not burst out laughing as you watched your sweet girl waddle over to her mom, hollering with enthusiasm. her little legs moved fast, but her mind moved faster, you realized when nearly she stumbled over her feet.
kate instantly heard the commotion behind her, head snapping in surprise with a confused look. but her gaze had softened the second she saw the culprit, her baby girl running to her as she babbled mindlessly. she kneeled down to ella's level as she ran into kate's chest, her short arms grasping her in a tight hug.
"well hey there ellie girl" she laughed as ella collided with her. kate picked her up swiftly, kissing all over her face lovingly "where'd you come from?"
as if she had summoned you, you emerged from behind the wall, waltzing over to your favorite girls. kate looked up at you with the most whipped expression on her face, lips turning into a smirk at the mere sight of you. she loved seeing you this way, with dirt still lingering on your face from a hard day's work and the collar of your dress weighing down just enough to catch a glimpse of your cleavage, the sweat still shining on the swell of it. a sight for sore eyes, she'd constantly remind you.
"thought we'd surprise you" you giggled along with them. a hand found its way to kate's shoulder, the other coming up to fix ella's messy hair "got done early in the garden today"
"and hello to you too, gorgeous" kate chimed, placing a peck to your lips "we've finished up in here too, how's a quick lunch back at the house sound?"
"mmm, perfect" you leaned into her touch, missing the feeling of her lips on yours already.
before you could question where your other kids had gone, ready to head back into a nicely cool house, you were interrupted by the sounds of boyish banter. your sons, thomas and cody, came rounding the corner. they were twins, about to turn five next spring, but you and kate had already felt like they were growing up far too fast.
it didn't take long before kate was ready to integrate them in her morning routine on the farm, wanting to teach them responsibility young. you had been a bit hesitant at first when kate pitched the idea to you one night, you wished they could have stayed your small little babies just a little bit longer. but you were proud to see them growing up, watching them tag along with kate and seeing how good she was with them. not to mention how you loved seeing kate so excited. she loved taking them on the tractor with her, loved feeding the livestock and watching them get distracted no matter how many times she scolded them to listen. she was already anticipating the day she'd get to take ella out to do the daily farm chores. it was the life she always wanted, three perfect kids with her perfect wife.
"mom!" their two voices sounded throughout the barn when they spotted you. they hadn't seen you since early this morning when you yanked them out of bed, shooing them off with kate before crawling back into bed for a few more minutes of sleep.
"hi babies!" you replied happily, nose scrunching as they tugged at the hem of your dress and the tips of your fingers. you knelt down just as kate had done, pulling one boy to each side in a deep hug "ohhh, i missed you boys so much today!"
it was only a matter of seconds before they started rambling about the day they had. thomas was quick to tell you all about milking the cows and how big and scary they were, cody trying to talk over him as he tried to tell you about how mom let him carry the big bags of feed because he claimed he's a "big boy" now. although you could barely make out anything over their overlapping stories, you couldn't help but smile and nod along, looking up to kate with a curious look.
"i see you guys had a good day with mom today?" you asked with a quirked brow. they nodded in agreement, moving their focus to kate to tell her they had finished up their chores in the barn.
after you and kate finished up closing down the barn, securing the stable doors and locking up with barn until tomorrow morning, you escorted your family back to your quaint little home. the kids traveled a few feet ahead of you two as they skipped and played along the makeshift trail, playfully shoving each other and messing around. meanwhile you and kate sauntered along with your fingers snuggly intertwined, admiring the amazing family you had built.
you were so lucky to have this life, forever grateful that you had managed to find it.
Plant a little happiness
Let the roots run deep
"ella may, you be careful now!" the winded voice of your wife echoed from outside. you snorted, only imagining the trouble unfolding as you carried two glasses out of the kitchen.
the ice clinked against the glass and the water sloshed gently as you set them down on the front porch table. the condensation dripped in a prolonging cascade, causing you to quickly wipe your hands on the cloth of your bottoms. you looked out across the white cedar railing to investigate the cause of all the commotion, smiling to yourself when you saw the scene laid out before you.
it was a nice day out, the perfect weather for a sunday afternoon to play out in the sun with the kids. not to mention that they had plenty of pent-up energy from their naps earlier in the day. ella especially was a bit of a rowdy girl and loved to give kate a run for her money, and she did exactly that. your baby girl had taken ahold of kate's cowboy hat, placing it atop her head and was bolting through the yard. the excessive size of the hat compared to her small head caused the rim to impair her vision, but she persisted and continued her escapade, nonetheless. kate chased after her in a playful manner as she called out for her hat, but sweet ella just giggled as she ran away from her mom. your boys, on the other hand, were preoccupied with an array of toy trucks on the steps of the porch. but that didn't stop them from joining in on the laughter as they watched their mom chase a weaselly toddler around the yard. their little hands clasped over their mouth to muffle their snickers.
"ellie girl, come'on" kate panted, lunging at her before she could collide with the flower beds you had neatly arranged earlier this year. you made yourself comfortable on the cushioned porch swing as kate picked her up, settling her writhing body on her hip to meet you on the porch "don't wanna hurt yourself, honey"
she found you on the swing, offering you the sweetest smile you had ever seen, setting ella down near the boys to play so she could sit with you. ella quickly joined in on the fun with the trucks with her brothers, forgetting that kate had pulled her away from her fun just moments ago. kate sunk into the cotton cushions with a deep groan as she stretched her legs out in front of her. chasing around a little girl all morning had her joints aching like crazy.
noticing how tense she seemed, you offered her the glass you had brought her from the kitchen, giving her arm a gentle squeeze. she took it with no hesitation and downed the entire thing immediately, wiping her mouth the back of her hand.
"she wears you out too easily, babe, you're gettin' old" you teased, laughing at the liquid that still dripped past her lip, hearing her tired pants. she rolled her eyes in return, although her grin implied anything but annoyance.
"that girls gonna break my back one day" she tsked, hand snaking over to your thigh and letting it rest there. you loved when she did simple things like that, touching you lovingly whenever she could "you chase her around the yard next time, yeah?"
"alright grandma, i'll make sure you sit the next one out" you assured in amusement. kate leaned over to nudge your shoulder with a slow shake of the head, you were always so good at making her genuinely laugh. you barely had to try, and she admired that.
together, you sat in content silence as you watched your troublemakers play around the yard. every so often you'd laugh when they bickered over who's turn it was to play with the toys and kate would hum in return, giving your leg a tender squeeze. they'd run until the lowering sun wore them out, feet dragging as they yawned from a long days' worth of horsing around, resulting in you and kate having to drag them back into the house. but despite the ache in your backs from cradling their tired bodies, you couldn't have asked for a more perfect sunday.
If it's love that we give
Then it's love that we reap
the softness of the bedside table and the vibrant lights of your kids' galaxy projector casted deep shadows around the room, glow-in-the-dark stars littering the ceiling in beautiful patterns. your sons were nestled tightly in their bunkbeds and ella, who was currently scared to sleep in her own room, had also managed to weasel her way into the top bed. they were nearing a deep sleep as they let out steady and rhythmic breathes, eyes fluttering closed. you and kate had exchanged smiles as you pulled the covers over their tired bodies, making sure to place a delicate kiss atop each their foreheads.
"goodnight," you whispered as you both tiptoed towards the door "sweet dreams!"
"sleep tight, kiddos" kate added before pulling the door shut with a quiet click. she turned, her back slumping against the worn-out wood as she let out a sigh of relief. sometimes it was a chore for you to get the kids to wind down and you were more than grateful that they went down easy tonight.
you snickered, grabbing onto her hand and pulling her into your pajama clad body in the middle of the hallway. her hands found solace on your hips while yours crept underneath her sleep shirt, pinching gently at her delicate skin. you leaned to place a quick kiss to her jaw before bringing your lips inches from her ear.
"care to take a quick trip to the kitchen?" you whispered "those brownies i made last night sound awfully good right now"
"only," she bargained with a giddy smile, liking the sound of sneaking off with you "only if there's vanilla ice cream involved"
you scrunched your nose, skin crinkling around your eyes in delight. kate swears she falls in love with you all over again when you do it. she had a habit of noticing the smallest things about you: the nose scrunches, how you'd poke your tongue out when you were concentrated, how you'd also tug on your left ear lobe when you were nervous. she'd never get tired of learning every little thing about you.
"you don't have to tell me twice," you said as you pulled away from her embrace, backing up towards the stairs "last one there has to scoop it!"
you stifled a squeal as you bolted as silently as you could down the stairs, attempting to beat kate to the kitchen. but she was close behind, you could tell, from the soft sounds of her feet racing down the steps. she had already grabbed onto your waist again when you both made it to the stairs, nearly tackling you to the ground as you giggled like teenagers. as much as you loved your kids, sometimes life with a family got so busy that you and kate didn't have much time for sweet moments like these, even if it's just goofing off with each other on a friday night.
"call it a tie?" kate asked, gasping for air. you nodded before kissing her again.
the farmhouse style kitchen, renovated perfectly by kate so that you could have the dream house you've always wanted, felt empty in the midst of the night. no kids, no dirty dishes, no dinner on the stove. it was peaceful like this, just you and your wife and the glistening moonlight. little sounds could be heard aside from clinking dishware and the closing of the freezer as you and kate gathered the ingredients for a late-night treat.
standing at the kitchen counter, an ice cream scoop in your hand and a knife to cut the brownies in kate's, you exchanged intimate chatter as you assembled 2 small bowls. you made sure to give her an extra scoop of ice cream since you knew it was her favorite. though the countertop has accumulated a large mess-bits of brownie, globs of ice cream, and small puddles of chocolate sauce made for quite a sticky disaster-it didn't stop you from hopping atop it and settling the bowl in your lap.
kate moved to stand between your legs, a spoonful of brownie in her mouth as she looked at you lovingly. you let out a breathy laugh when you noticed a dribble of ice cream sliding down the side of her mouth, licking your thumb and reaching out to wipe it off her face. she faked biting at your finger, always teasing you knowing you'd laugh every time.
"s'good?" you motioned to her nearly empty bowl.
"mhm," she groaned as she consumed the last mouthful of brownie. her eyes were squeezed shut in utter bliss, so corny but it made you smile "yur' such a good baker, baby"
you rolled your eyes before nudging her side with your leg. you were a baker on the side, experimenting in the kitchen when you weren't helping with the farm. kate always said you should pursue it professionally, get a lot somewhere in town and run your own little business. she used to encourage you daily before the kids were born, but you persistently told her this was more than perfect for you. what a privilege it was to bake for your family and get to spend every moment of the day with them. you knew kate had her heart in the right place though, she only ever wanted the best for you, and she'd be damned if you had anything less than what your wildest dreams entailed. but you swore that baking birthday cakes and making treats for the new neighbors was good enough for you.
"yeah, you always say that" you said as you both finished off the bowls. hopping off the counters top and setting them into the sink. as you rinsed them off under the warm faucet water, kate snuck up behind you, chest pressing against your back snuggly.
"cause 's true" she mumbled into your shoulder "ya know…i miss these moments with you"
turning off the sink, you let her turn you around, trapping you between her body and the sink. she had a look of adoration in her eyes, blown wide at the sight of you. your features stood out in contrast to the bleak lighting and she was soaking in each one.
“i miss them too” your hands crept along her chest “love having you t’myself”
"love havin' you to myself" her hands maneuvered down to your lower back and then to the pert of your ass, palms giving a squeeze to the plump skin "already got me thinkin' about sneakin' away more often..."
"that so?" you breathed out. without even realizing it, your body was giving in to her, allowing her strength to pull you closer. her lips brushed against yours suddenly and you couldn't help but let out a sigh before they finally came together. it was a gentle kiss, but loving all the same, making you wish you never had to pull away.
"of course, baby. you're irresistible" she said, nipping lightly at your bottom lip as you separated from the kiss.
you were quick to pull her back for another kiss, missing the feeling the moment she pulled away. and she happily obliged, ever so eager to please her wife. the kitchen started to feel increasingly hot the longer her lips were glued to yours and you were both starting to feel the heat. kate broke the tension before you could as she guided you both out of the kitchen. with a cocky and mischievous look on her face, she motioned to the stairs, making it clear that her mind was in the same place yours was. you bit your lip before nodding your head, letting her grab onto your wrist and lead you to your shared bedroom.
safe to say that the midnight snack was more than just the brownies.
If we want a garden
We're gonna have to sow the seed
today was a chaotic morning to say the least. it was the first day of kindergarten for thomas and cody, and you and kate were both struggling with it. in an instant, the world was changing on you, realizing your boys were growing up on you faster than you would have liked. tears were definitely shed as you stood in front of the school, watching them skip through the doors with their little backpacks slung over their shoulders. luckily, they'd only be attending until two, but trying to take your mind off it was a chore. you busied yourself around the house, doing the dishes and sweeping and whatnot; kate tried to keep her composure as she spent the day with ella.
as you were finishing up the remainder of your chores, stacking porcelain plates in the cabinets and putting the broom back in the closet, you noticed that you hadn't seem much of kate and ella for quite some time. last you had heard from them is when kate said she'd go wake ella up from her nap so she'd wouldn't be tired the rest of the day. but that was quite some time ago and the chores seemed to keep your mind occupied.
you tiptoed up the soft carpet of the stairs, each slat creaking beneath you as you made your way towards ella's room. you hoped she hadn't convinced kate to crawl into bed with her, persuaded her to read her another bedtime story so she could continue her slumber with her mom like she'd done many times before. kate was a push over when it came to her youngest. whatever ella wanted, she got.
but the chit chat that filled your ears as you approached her bedroom door told you quite the opposite, giving you a bit of relief that you wouldn't have to wake up your toddler and your wife. the door wasn't completely open, but just enough that you could peak inside and see what was apparently keeping them busy. and you couldn't believe the sight that overcame you.
ella's play table sat in the middle of the room, a pink blanket draped across it and her plastic teacups set in neat little spaces. her wooden stools were gathered around it with spots for each of her and her stuffed animals, and of course, another for kate. the best part, almost enticing a loud cackle from you, was the tiny and glittery purple dress that ella had forced over kate's torso. the sleeves strained against her large biceps and the neckline was certainly going to leave a small rash. your daughter had even gone as far as placing one of her spare princess tiaras atop her blonde hair. perfect for such a special occasion, kate's very first princess tea party.
you silently pulled out your phone to capture the moment as you watched ella pour kate a cup of "tea" from her cinderella themed teapot. she giggled when kate put her lips to the rim-with a pinky up, of course-and pretended to take a loud sip.
"wow your majesty," your wife declared, a flat palm rubbing over her belly "this tea is quite delicious"
"want s'more princess mommy?" ella asked through the gap in her front teeth, dishing out even more teacups to her furry friends.
"oh please, and with extra sugar and sparkles this time"
the sweet moment tugged at your heart strings; you hoped she'd stay this young forever. stay the sweet little girl that loved to play with her moms and get herself in all sorts of trouble. you and kate had truly been blessed. they continue to play for a little bit longer, still not noticing you standing in the doorway, and you soak in every millisecond. but eventually, your clever girl spots you and ushers you in with a shriek.
"mama!" she cheers, running to the door and grabbing your hand. she drags you in and you make eye contact with kate, wiggling your eyebrows are her new look "come play!"
"yeah, mama" kate adds as she pulls another stool next to her, gesturing you to sit and join them "you don't wanna miss ellie girl's famous tea"
"you know i wouldn't miss it! rumor has it that it's the best in all the kingdom!" you gasp when ella offers you your own cup and saucer, and she claps her little hands when you let out a satisfied groan. definitely the best imaginary tea in the whole town.
the three of you clink your cups and revel in the moment until it was time to turn back to reality. the time ultimately rolls around to 1:30, quicker than you'd like, cutting playtime short so that you can pick up your boys from school. the princess tea party served as a great distraction for kate's active nerves, but they finally subdue the second thomas and cody run into her arms in the parent pick up line. nothing would beat the relieved smile that spread across kate's face.
Yeah I want a house with a crowded table
the household was a whirlwind of activity, a festive chaos that was unique to your small family. from the moment that christmas morning dawned, your home was filled with squeals and cheers of excitement for the most exciting day of the year. the day had passed by in a blur, but it'd be one you'd never forget.
it all started with bare little feet running through the hall to yours and kate's room, the whispers and pleas of your children begging you to get up so they could see what santa had brought them. then came the antagonizing task of trying to get them to settle down so that you could make your coffee, which became more difficult as the years went on. but it was all worth it to see their faces light up as they ripped open endless amounts of wrapping paper, watching them run around with kate as they played with their new toys and gadgets. it was like a scene straight from a sickeningly cliche hallmark movie.
and to finish off the day, your most favorite part of the holiday, was a more than hectic christmas dinner.
the aroma of turkey filled the kitchen as 6 o'clock rolled around, the scent mingling with the rest of the dishes that covered your countertops. the sounds of pots and pans made for adequate ambient noise as you bounced around the kitchen to finish up the last of the dinner preparations. the apron that hung comfortably down your abdomen was now stained from the hours of cooking you'd been doing; it's strings slowly coming undone around your waist. the quiet christmas music that emitted from the record player in the living room was quickly drowned out from the children's excitement and anticipation for dinner.
"alright boys," kate scolded as she tried to round everyone up at the dining table "those bottoms better be in your seats by the time your mother comes out here"
you heard them groan in dissatisfaction, the legs of their chairs scraping against the wooden floors. you could also make out the sweet babbling she cooed to your daughter, already able to tell she was trying to coax her into a seat of her own.
"speaking of" you singsong-ed as you exited the kitchen, starting to place each dish at the center of the table "food's ready!"
the boy's clapped their hands in excitement, tummies rumbling at the scent of your freshly cooked dinner. feet kicking back and forth under the table, their small fingers already reaching for the silverware. you chuckled as kate dished up their plates, hearing the occasional "i'm hungry mama!". you took your time dishing up the rest, your daughters and the two of yours, sliding ellie's small santa claus themed plate in front of her.
finally, everything felt at peace. the dinner was cooked, the presents were opened, and the toys were sprawled across the living room floor. the dishes were done, for the most part, and you had the best christmas gift of all right in front of you.
your family, all gathered around your quaint dining table, with hearty meals in front them. it was truly a blessing to live this life, to be so lucky to experience what so many may not get. you watched as the kids scarfed down their food; watched as kate held your hand, thumb caressing your knuckles as she complimented the food. and you just about shed a tear, the sentiment of it all enough to make you cry.
kate noticed how you fell silent, how you just stared at your little family, and smiled at you with a squeeze of her hand. she didn't ask what was wrong, why you weren't talking, yet she just knew. and she was just as grateful for the most perfect christmas you both could've asked for.
And a place by the fire for everyone
the flames crackled from the fireplace in front of you. its light illuminating the surrounding room, shades of gold casting across the picture frames upon the mantle. the living room smelt of crisp pine and fresh linen, yet the smell of the candy from the kids' christmas stockings still managed to make its way through your nose.
despite the persistent snowstorm howling outside, it was perfectly cozy within the confinements of your home. you and kate were snuggled up on the middle of the couch, her arm around your shoulders, your hand cradling her face as you attempted to warm your cold fingers. the kids, just as warm, surrounded the two of you on the ends of the couch. ellie laid across your lap, cheek smushed into the blanket that enveloped you both. sweet snores pushed passed her lips as she dreamed peacefully. the boys, however, were all over kate. thomas sat directly next to your wife, his head thrown back against the couch cushions. meanwhile cody mirrored his sister as he drifted off to sleep on his mother's legs.
nights like this seemed rare in this household, yet they were more than treasured. you loved the rambunctious nature of your children, but you also found yourself savoring the feeling of the nights where they were all settling down without your and kate's efforts.
you could tell kate was enjoying the peace too, watching as she used her free hand to delicately brush cody's hair out of his face. she looked so in her element like this, such a good mother, so kind and attentive to your small family. you would never get sick of seeing her take care of you all, as silly as it may sound. never tired of how she looked out for your sons, never tired of how she cherished your daughter, and certainly never tired of how she always made time for you. kate was the definition of a super mom.
"how long do you think we've got?" you said as quietly as possible, finding yourself speaking just to hear her voice.
she laughed, matching your quiet volume, now turning her focus to you. the warm glow that lit up the walls now kissed her skin, allowing you to really see each freckle, to see the ridges of her jaw and the outline of her nose.
"m'not sure" she said "probably 'bout another hour if we're careful"
you bit your lip, agreeing with her. but in truth, your mind was already elsewhere. her soul was so captivating, reeling you in with just a quick glance. that hour could be just five minutes, and you'd still treat that time with all the caution in the world.
"better soak it in then yeah?" you said "before we have to wake 'em and they start to beg for more candy again"
she groaned, hand leaving cody's head to run along her face in complaint.
"ugh," she let out a breathy laugh "we shouldn't of got that much candy, they're gonna be on a sugar rush 'fer days"
you could already picture the tantrums and meltdowns and the upset stomachs. but you had the best partner in crime to get you through all of that chaos. parenting felt easy when it was with her.
"rookie mistake" you joined in on the laughs "that's why we gotta take it all in now, they're not gonna be this quiet again for a while"
"you're right," kate sighed, already closing her eyes and pulling you in closer "come on, mom, let's get some sleep in while we can"
you beamed, curling into her as you felt her body melt into yours, allowing your body to rest until the inevitable time came where this moment all had to end. though the disappointment couldn't last too long, knowing you'd wake up and get a whole new day with your favorite people, laced with even more special memories than you could even imagine.
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done
"'member when we brought the boys home for the first time?" kate's voice sounded from her place in the bedroom, wavering into the connecting bathroom where you were getting ready for bed.
you chuckled with a mouth full of toothpaste before spitting it into the sink "how we couldn't tell the two apart the second we left the hospital? yeah i remember"
she laughed along with you, reminiscing on the memory. the day you became moms, it was unforgettable. how she was so scared to hold them, afraid they would break like glass if she wasn't careful enough. how supportive you were when she doubted herself and how she gave you the same support back.
it was nights like these. when the house quieted with only the soft snores of you children floating through the halls, the gentle hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen, and the howling wind outside that got kate really thinking. when you two laid in bed, your back against her chest and her arms draped over your torso, she couldn't get her mind to stop flitting through all of her memories.
she was smiling to herself, hands in her lap when you finally sauntered back into the bedroom, sliding underneath the sheets next to her. she looked so content in that moment, like she was completely frozen.
"and that time we caught ellie in the bathroom with all of your makeup smeared all over her face?" she cackled again at the mere thought "it took forever to clean that up!"
but you didn't respond, just letting your head fall onto her shoulder, snuggling into her side with a nod.
"she was the perfect baby, wasn't she? -i mean the boys were too, but-ellie was just so...so dreamy you know? tommy and cody gave us a run for our money, but that sweet girl has always been easy"
even when she was in the fussy stage, where you'd expected her to cry and lose sleep, she was an absolute angel.
"like a ray of sunshine" you chimed as your eyes started to droop.
"yeah," kate murmured, her head falling atop of yours "pure, utter, sunshine"
the two of you attempted to fall asleep for what felt like forever. the moment one would drift off to sleep, the other would remember some sort of memory to recall. but no amount of sleep mattered enough to miss out on this sacred time, just you and your wife in bed with all of the time in the world.
"can i tell you somethin'?" kate whispered with a kiss to your forehead. you had just been on the verge of tears from laughing as she told you stories from her high school days that you somehow hadn't heard before, but quickly halted at her softened tone.
"of course, baby" you said "always"
she wanted to snort at your sincerity, the epitome of sugar and spice. so sweet you'd give anyone a cavity. you not only listened to every word she muttered, but you heard them. the most attentive woman a wife could ask for.
"i don't know what i would've done if i never met you that night" kate said "you know, at caitlin's poker tournament?"
oh you knew. the night would be engraved in your brain until the end of time. it was like each little detail was written into the anatomical structure of your being.
"i just knew from the second i saw you," she almost began to ramble, suddenly overcome by the love she had for you "i just fuckin' knew that you were gonna be mine"
you felt it too. that overpowering feeling of completeness, like all the moments in your life had led up to this, led to her. you swore you saw your future in her soft blue eyes, already planning your wedding before you even exchanged words.
"i think i've spent my whole life looking for you kate" you spoke "and i'm so beyond happy i don't have to look anymore, that i get to have this life with you"
"me too," she sighed "thank you"
"thank you?" you asked, convinced the lack of sleep was now speaking for her.
"thank you for loving me, for putting up with me no matter how tough i may be. thank you for giving us our beautiful kids, for being patient and gentle" she smiled. she could probably go on and on, listing all the things you've done for her in the time you've know each other.

it was doomed from the start, when you told kate it had to be a secret.
she had somehow weaseled her way into your life, immediately finding a keen liking for you. for some reason you let her; you let her break your walls down until there was nothing left between you but unspoken feelings of love and admiration. it was inevitable when she kissed you, making it impossible for you to reject her advances because, secretly, you wanted her just as bad.
but no one could know. no one knew.
make sure nobody sees you leave,
hood over your head,
keep your eyes down.
you were running through the dorm parking lot belonging to the building kate lived in. your hoodie was pulled up over your head, draw-strings tugged taught until you could hardly see. kate watched you through her window, the weight of your shared secret making her feel heavy.
she hated seeing you go like this— rushed and panicked with the news that her team was coming back to the dorms earlier than originally planned. her hoodie engulfed you, creating a safe and secret place for you as you crossed the parking lot, eyes downcast as you make your way to your car.
you’d finally been able to come over to her dorm after weeks of hardly seeing her at all. not even moments ago your limbs were tangled with hers, soft kisses and a sloppy make out transpired between the two of you.
her whole team was out, celebrating a win that kate would rather miss if it meant she got some alone time with you. the time with you ended up being short-lived though. not even a full hour had passed before kate received a text from caitlin informing her everyone was going to check in early tonight.
disappointment was etched in her face as you pulled out of her embrace, quickly collecting your things to leave. all she had left was a chaste kiss on the lips and a sweetly whispered goodbye that rang in her ears as she watched your car disappear into the darkness.
what started in beautiful rooms
ends with meetings in parking lots
“i’m sorry we had to meet like this.. i thought the team would’ve been gone tonight.” kate sighs, letting her hands slip off of her steering wheel as you step inside her car.
you could tell she was tired. her hair was messily tied back, dark circles sagging under her eyes as she rubbed them. assuming it was pressure from the very demanding basketball season, you reached out, intertwining your delicate fingers with her calloused ones.
“hey, it’s okay. as long as i get to see you, it doesn’t matter where i am.”
that makes kate smile, her gaze breaking away from the rain-soaked parking lot. her relief only lasts a few seconds and is gone before you could even catch it. of course she was happy to just see you, but realizing her relationship with you has trickled down to these sort of meetings, it kills her.
you used to come to her games. you used to hangout with her and the team. you used to be seen in public together, when you were friends. and now, when you were supposed to be closer than ever, none of that seemed like a possibility anymore. it was killing kate. because now this was almost as good as it gets; secret meetings in an empty parking lot past ten o’clock at night.
kate remembers meeting you for the first time, how different things were then. she remembers meeting you in the warm and dim lights of the library late at night, catching up on late work and trying to escape the distractions of the dorm. but then she saw you. she really couldn’t help it when she started to stare, watching as the light and it’s shadow cast different shades of color over your face as you moved.
the library had been beautiful that time of night, kate always thought so. but not as beautiful as you.
leave the perfume on the shelf
that you picked out just for her
so you leave no trace behind
like you don’t even exist
it’d been awhile since kate even uttered your name in front of her friends. the fear of giving something away loomed over her head like a dark cloud, rain threatening to spill at any moment. it wasn’t until kate came home late after a night with you that your nervous activity started.
caitlin was sitting in the common area when kate got back, motioning her to come sit with a gentle pat of the cushion next to her. your girlfriend was in good spirits so she gave in without hesitation, coming to sit next to caitlin on the couch as she watched a late night basketball game.
“where’ve you been?” caitlin asked suspiciously, turning her nose in her friend’s direction.
“just out.”
“with y/n?”
kate goes stoic, eyes trained on the wall while her previously bouncing leg stands still. she hasn’t been expecting that, what gave it away?
“what? no, we don’t really.. hang out anymore.”
“you smell like her.” caitlin presses in dangerous territory and she knows it. you seemed to be a sensitive subject in kate’s life now, and she had no idea why.
kate shrugs before quickly standing up. she was desperate to escape from this conversation because somehow, caitlin always knows. and she can’t know about this. that’s why when kate shuts her door with a soft click she texts you immediately with a link to a new perfume, offering to buy it for you. she couldn’t tell you about what happened. you’d freak out, go into hiding away from kate for a little while.
so she doesn’t.
she buys you the new perfume and you replace it with the old one, the one that happened to be her favorite. the one she knew you used to wear just for her.
it was safer this way. caitlin couldn’t trace any scent back to you now. she couldn’t trace anything back to you anymore. a big part of kate hated that, but a smaller part of her knew it was better for you, so she settled.
take the words for what they are
a dwindling mercurial high
a drug that only worked
the first few hundred times
“kate, i just need time.”
it was a hushed whisper, one that kate has heard before. she believed it before, and part of her still does. but each time she loses hope, her fingers slip until she’s hanging on by her fingernails.
you promised kate it wouldn’t be like this forever. one day— soon you claimed, the two of you wouldn’t have to love in secret.
“kate i’ve never loved anyone the way i love you,” you’d whisper genuinely and she’d be hooked, fully trusting and forcefully patient. there was nothing she loved more than you, not even basketball, and she’d wait forever to be able to tell everyone that, even when it was having an undeniable impact on her mental state.
“i know.” she whispers back, lips moving against your skin as she tries to become one with you.
it was so hard to remember all the lost promises and time when you were holding her like this. hands in her hair, coddling against her and cradling her head into your chest. it was as if you were massaging all the past memories of empty words out of her brain, trying to make her forget about how you said all of this months ago.
and a couple months after that you’d whisper the same sweet nothings.
“you keep saying that..”
“and i mean it, kate.”
she stares at you, eyes turning to oceans full of complex and conflicting feelings. she was upset, disappointed, angry, and betrayed.
“look i understand what it’s like to come out. i’ve been there and i understand if you’re not ready, but don’t tell me you are.”
her first tear slips along with her conviction.
“kate.. i’m sorry,” you whisper, reaching out to wipe her tears away and she physically softens into your touch. “please don’t give up on me.”
and it was working again. your words, whether they were honest or not, had an affect on kate that made her stay. she’d always stay as long as you asked. somewhere deep down kate knew she was crumbling from the inside out. she was growing restless, a sinking feeling of hopelessness consuming her each time you failed to follow through on your promises. the promises you made while entangling your pinky with hers, kissing delicately along her knuckles.
and that’s the thing about illicit affairs
and clandestine meetings and stolen stares
they show their truth one single time
but they lie, and they lie, and they lie,
a million little times
kate glanced your way longingly, watching silently as you interacted with the people around you. she wished so deeply it could be her so close to you, demanding attention and hearing your sweet laugh.
but it wasn’t. and despite what you said, she knew it probably wouldn’t be her for a long time.
kate felt so real when she was with you. so pure, who she was meant to be at her core. being with you was so real for kate, all her feelings and commitments, all the promises and conflicts were real.
but it was a lie.
every time she’d avoid your gaze or pretend like she didn’t know you, it was a lie. lying to her friends about you, her family, or anyone who asked. she’d lie and say yes if anyone asked about her being single. she’d lie about you.
it drained kate. she couldn’t fathom the idea that this was all per your request. deliberate decisions made by you to deceive everyone around you. kate was like your little affair, a secret you kept hidden away from the world so you could still have your fun elsewhere.
kate was your lie, and you were hers.
when you finally made eye contact with her she broke. all her buried resentment and defeat, all the fake promises and compromises, all the secrecy, all the hurt and confusion, all the insecurity, all the buried thoughts that haunted kate glared back at you.
but she saw it in you too. the weight of your lies and the pain of the truth. not only were you lying to everyone about kate, you were lying about yourself, to yourself.
and you wanna scream
don’t call me “kid”
don’t call me “baby”
kate’s head was deep in her hands, sobbing as shaky fingers pulled at the roots of her hair. for some reason she never saw this coming. the hopeful and innocent part of kate always thought it’d work out, that you’d work it out together. like you always said.
but you’d broken up with her. the stress of your secret relationship finally catching up. this couldn’t last forever, and you realized you’d never come out like kate wanted you to. it wasn’t fair to her. it wasn’t fair to expect her to be okay with being hidden. that’s what you told yourself to feel like less of a coward.
you could see she was freaking out. it took a lot to speak again, too afraid and shameful. too scared you’d make it worse.
“baby i’m so sorry, im so sorry.”
kate squeezes her eyes shut painfully. the word rings like a mantra through her ears, seeping into her soul where it freezes her feelings and numbs her mind. she shakes her head before looking back up at you with a face contorted by hurt.
“don’t call me that.”
“kate..”
“don’t call me that. seriously.”
you stare silently, guilt-ridden eyes shamefully gazing on her soft features, made even softer by the shine of her tear-stained cheeks and red puffy eyes. this was the hardest thing you’ve ever done. looking at her made you want to change your mind, to take it all back cruelly but you knew you couldn’t.
if you couldn’t accept who you were, how could anyone else?
“how could you do this to me? c’mon, i mean, i was there, through everything. i love you with everything i have. i mean.. i can’t even.. you promised me this wouldn’t happen. you promised.”
look at this idiotic fool that you made me
you taught me a secret language i can’t speak with anyone else
kate felt like a fool. she should’ve known better.
every time she’d make a harmless joke about you being a lesbian and you denied it, she should’ve known. every time you’d claim you were ready to come out to your parents but never did, she should’ve known. she should’ve seen it coming a mile away.
she could’ve, if she hadn’t chosen willful ignorance. but she decided she would rather have your love in private than not at all.
but now she had nothing and could tell no one.
she couldn’t tell anyone about you even if it was over. but caitlin didn’t need to be told twice, or even once. she knew where kate had been going late at night, she knew about the longing looks from across the room. she also saw your text to kate asking to talk.
that’s why she slipped into her best friend’s room that night when she got back home. to hold her as she cried, tell her it was okay and she was there for her.
“i love her so much caitlin.” kate choked out, crying all over again when the image of you in her bed only a few weeks ago flashed through her brain. a cruel memory.
“i know kate. you always love too much.”
and that pattern repeated for weeks, a concerning amount of time that even caitlin was restless. it happened almost every night like clockwork; kate would get back from her self-inflicted extra practice looking exhausted and battered, fleeing to her room without a single word and about ten minutes later she’d attempt to muffle her sobs into her pillow. the pillow that somehow still smelt like the perfume kate bought you.
walking through day-to-day life became harder for kate. no one understood the stupid inside jokes you built together, or the gesture of kissing fingertips you started together.
caitlin forced her friend out into the social world and it only took one conversation to break kate down into a reminiscing mess. objectively there was nothing wrong with the girl other than the fact that she wasn’t you. no one would ever understand kate the way you had, and she’s certain no man would ever understand you the way she had.
kate had to mourn the loss of your love and the connection that came with it. the unique diction you had built together. that one of a kind love could only be found with you, the girl that denied ever loving a woman.
you were a self-proclaimed straight woman. but kate knew, behind closed doors, behind her doors, you were far from it.
and you know damn well
for you, i would ruin myself
a million little times
after awhile kate could finally claim she’d gotten better.
she was enjoying her social life again. going out to bars and clubs, going to team parties, going shopping and playing basketball. she’d even visited home, getting the secret of you off of her chest to her mother.
she slowly eased herself back into normality, following a similar routine to the one she had before you.
the issue was, kate is no longer who she was before she met you. she’d never be that rational woman again. she’d never be able to say no to you again. but that didn’t occur to her, and if it did she wouldn’t mind much because she never thought she’d have to.
it’d been months since she saw you.
but suddenly you appeared across the room, lifting your head before meeting kate’s wide eyes. she knew she was doomed when you waved, a soft smile on your face when she waved back. that lasted for a few moments; stealing glances at each other from across the room before you made your way over.
“hey kate.” it was sweet, like a voice dipped in honey.
“hey..”
“kate, i’ve really been wanting to talk to you. i’m really sorry for how everything happened.”
she looked down at you, draped in your pretty outfit with your pretty hair and your pretty eyes. you sounded so genuine, and she wondered desperately what you wanted to talk about.
“do you wanna come to my place tonight?” she asked, curious and hopeful.
“how about mine?”
“oh, yeah.. sure.”
and kate knew. she knew nothing had changed. you were still the same old you, and she was still the same old her.
she’d go through it all again for you. a million times over.

Your nika/paige headcannons slayed can u do a poly relationship of them please maybe smut if your comfortable
— BIG BALLER SMUT HCS
— nika is so, so, gentle with you. she can be mean, but still gentle. she pampers you from beginning to end, high on the praise, the whole shabang. she likes to take care of you and your needs, but she does it so slow it’ll last for hours. her hands grope every inch of skin, showing you unlimited amounts of love as she buries her tongue in your cunt. the only time it might be different is when she’s frustrated (most likely with paige or something basketball related). she can be ruthless; pounding you from behind with her blue strap as she stares at your ass and pulls your hair…
— paige is…… a little different. she’s frantic, trying to make you finish as fast as possible just so she can do it over and over again. she likes to see you cry a little, not bawling but definitely a lil overstimulated tear or two. she also likes to make you scream, just so nika can hear. she’ll have your legs spread wide, eating you out, making you cum in record time. when you push her away or pull yourself up the bed though.. she’ll wrap her hands around your ankles, pulling your soaked pussy back into her space and giving you absolutely zero time to catch your breath.
— you + nika + cockwarming = an immediate yes. she loves watching you sink onto her strap, groping your tits as you straddle her. if you move or complain she doesn’t hesitate to slap your ass, warning you (maybe in croatian just cause!)
— paige definitely takes pics of you (and sends them to nika to make her jealous). she bought a digital camera just for that reason but it eventually ran out of storage so now she has a polaroid camera. trust she keeps one of those pictures in her wallet.
— if they’re taking you at the same time…… pls pray for your soul. they always fight over who goes first, or if one of them tries to touch you while it’s not their turn….
— paige REFUSES to let you touch nika if she’s fucking you. she expects your total, undivided attention. nika on the other hand doesn’t mind because you’ll be moaning her name anyway! but.. if paige tries to touch your clit or anything while nika’s fucking you, she’ll actually cuss her out and fuck you harder just to spite paige.
— if they get into an argument paige will make sure you’re chanting her name loud enough for not only nika to hear, but the rest of your neighbors too.
— paige loves tribbing. absolutely loves it. she swears she can actually feel it when you finish and she loves that close intimacy. she especially loves when you’re on top, grinding your clit against hers just so she can feel your hips stutter when you’re close. she also loves a good 69 moment.. i don’t make the rules!
— one of the things nika and paige can agree on is: your pleasure comes first. no matter what. if they’re both fucking you, best believe you’re calling off of work the next day because you physically cannot muster the strength to walk. when they finally agree to work together to get you to cum….. it’s game over. life-altering experience.
