I forgot what it meant to be inspired

To feel the fire burning inside your veins, 

To want something more than yourself

More than the universe wanted for you.

I forgot what it was like to seek out the beauty

To be hot instead of cold, to be fierce and bold,

I forgot about the things that made me smile

That mimicked the sunshine on my face;

That caused me to get up and go

The power for an engine that never sleeps.

I forgot what it was like to seek out that which inspires - 

That tells me who I am. 

A secret voice that no one but I can hear;

Whispering of “Will I?” and “Won’t I?” and “Why not I?”

I miss the feeling of my cheeks pushing my glasses up

Staining them with makeup and the force of my smile.

I miss the strength of my smile lines, and how they

Tell everyone around me that I am filled with joy.

I feel at home in the dark, but sometimes
