Teen Titans MASTER POST! Cosplay and Build Details!
In addition to portraying Raven, I made the majority of all five costumes! My goal, as it often is, was to introduce details, textures, and elements of realism to the costumes, while maintaining the visual integrity of each character. I also strove to find a happy balance between the original comic book versions and the TV show characters. These are some of my favorite pieces of work to date, and I’m so happy to FINALLY have amazing photos of all of us together!Â

Starfire, Robin, and Blue Beetle (Teen Titans), Cosplay
All three costumes were made by me! A thrift-store pleather jacket/cargo pants, and a track suit served as bases for the gentlemen, heavily altered and decorated with colorful paneling, buckles, studs, hand-cut scales, and piping. A hand-made arm cannon, repurposed/repainted mask, and scarab backpack complete Blue Beetle’s outfit. For Starfire, foam armor fits over an Ultrapreme base, and is decorated with hand-cast resin gems. I made Starfire’s wig using a Luthien from Arda as a base, with four additional colors of wefts sewn in to create her firey ombre. Just curling it took 10 hours!

Construction Notes pt. 2
Jon Snow’s all-black aesthetic made re-cycling pieces super easy. I knit the scale-mail gauntlets for a previous costume, and I’m so happy they get another chance to be worn (as a lot of hours went into them). The base sword for Longclaw is another re-used piece, which I made from insulation foam, balsa and Worbla. I originally designed with it with a modular blade, hilt, and pommel. For Jon, I simply sculpted the direwolf pommel from Instamorph, and attached it to the hilt via hidden soda bottle screw tops. His tabbard was constructed from black velvet curtains and scrap pleather, and hand-studded. His cloak is made from hand-me-down black suede and stretch velvet. The shirt, pants, and cuirass were all stock pieces I borrowed. Boots and gloves for both characters are personal clothing items.  Jon’s wig was a free factory sample from Arda–a weird black-to-white ombre–which I dyed, curled, and cut. I like how the color variation makes it look more natural. :)Â
My sister (our go-to prop-maker) made the bone knife, bronze axe, and arrows out of left-over balsa, insulation foam, and Worbla. All are masterfully painted with acrylic. She even traditionally fletched a couple of the arrows! (Though we didn’t have time to do them all…) I procrastinated on Ygritte’s bow until the last minute, so it was made in about three hours out of scrap EVA, Worbla, duct tape, and leather. Out of focus it doesn’t look too bad! XD These amazing photos were shot by the lovely Giosia Photography in the Cascade Mountains. While we weren’t able to cross the pass to our originally planned location, we stumbled across an equally amazing place to shoot! The weather was perfect, and the heavy snowfall that started right as we were doing Ygritte’s death seemed like fate.

Construction Notes pt. 1
I wanted to capture how I imagined the characters when I read the books, while still evoking enough similarities with the show that the characters were recognizable. I’m pleased that the design of these outfits allowed me to be particularly thrifty/environmentally-friendly.  With the exception of some wooden dowels, duct tape, and stage blood, no new materials were used to make these cosplays. Everything used in the construction of these costumes was either thrifted, salvaged, re-used, or borrowed!Â
Three used suede jackets (two of which had already been partially used for a previous cosplay) were deconstructed and hand-stitched back together to make Ygritte’s “doeskin” shirt and “sheepskin” breeches. Leftover fake fur decorates her cuffs and hood. Her rabbit-skin vest is made from five actual rabbit skins that I salvaged from a local costume shop. Her hood was a lucky thrift store find!  I always love cosplays where I can use my real hair, and this time I accented it with handmade fake dreads, beads, and feathers. (Ygritte’s perfect hair and extremely modern hair-styling were probably my biggest problems with her portrayal in the show).Â
Teen Titans vs Terra and Slade!Â
Last November I had the wonderful opportunity to visit @gingerlizcosplay on the East Coast and recreate some scenes from Teen Titans! (Yes, I had an entire suitcase full of costumes…) Had a blast tromping around downtown and getting some AMAZING shots with her awesome Terra and BlakAnubis’ badass Deathstroke.

Grace, our resident metal-worker and props-lady, did some phenomenal work creating seven beautiful bells and a bandolier to hold them for our friend’s Sabriel cosplay. Here’s her walkthrough of her process!

Raven, Robin, and Beast Boy (Teen Titans), Cosplay
In addition to portraying Raven, I made the majority of all three costumes. Thrift-store pleather jackets and cargo pants served as bases for the gentlemen, heavily altered and decorated with colorful paneling, buckles, studs, hand-cut scales, and piping. A gold-satin-lined cape and foam shoulder armor for Robin, and hand-painted boots and gloves for Beast Boy, complete the outfits. I based Raven’s leotard on a bathing suit pattern, and constructed it from black and slate blue pleather, with a tulle overlay and piping to add dimension. My cape is made from three layers of navy chiffon, and I cast all of my gems from resin using hand-made molds. All of the metal working was done by our Robin, including creating Raven’s belt and cutting Robin’s “R” logo from sheet brass.Â
All three wigs are from @ardawigs, cut and styled by myself. Photos by @elite-cosplay

Harley Quinn (Batman: The Animated Series), Cosplay
I first designed and made my Harley Quinn costume in 2009 (!) and I’ve FINALLY gotten proper pictures of it. I wanted to capture the spirit of her original jester costume, while adding a touch of realism. Over the years, this costume’s had had numerous alterations, additions, and re-workings, and I am so pleased with the final result!
I made Harley’s corset from some scrap yardage of a beautiful red and black brocade. With red ribbon channels and black lace trim, it’s fully steel-boned (and lined with flannel for extra comfy!) Harley’s pants and jacket are both modified thrift store purchases. My mask is Worbla and carbon-fiber-patterned automotive vinyl. My Harley wig began as a @ardawigs Chibi. I cut out about 1/3 of the volume, hand-colored the roots, severely cut the bangs, and restyled the pigtails. A painted Nerf gun serves as my pistol. Lastly, I repainted a pair of Harley Davidson boots found at my local thrift store (because they were perfect, but also for the pun!)
