Ginger and Bubblegum

Setting: Souda's shop. It's nighttime and almost closing time. Souda's putting the finishing touches on another bike, but then an angel taps on his shoulder. No lie. It's an angel. How can Souda tell?

Leon: Fizzy drink! Fizzy drink fizzy drink fizzy drink!

Souda: (sweating because being next to the love of his life always makes him break out in a sweat) Y-y-yeah? W-w-wassup, Kuwa-kun?

Leon: Let's catch a movie!

Souda: (eyes bug out so far they reach the next country) Huh?! A m-m-movie?! T-t-together?!

Leon: Yeah! It'll be da domb, I promise! I wanna take ya to the most bad-ass movie of all time!

Setting: Souda's shop. Souda's working overtime in the Summer heat. It's blistering hot and he's put in a lot of hours but the bike needs to be done. Suddenly angels part the heavens and their most beautiful angel comes out of the sky, lands in his shop and runs towards him. Unfortunately, he looks incredibly upset. Souda, all nerves forgotten, throws aside his tools and dashes towards Leon.

Souda: Kuwata-kun?! What's goin' on?! Who did this, who hurt ya?! Whoever did this is gonna have their balls pulled through their mouth with my wrench, I swear it!

Leon: (cheeks rose red, gives his friend teary puppy eyes) Fizzy drink, I...I...

Souda: (snarls, anger not at all directed at Leon but at the one responsible for Leon's sadness) What?! Tell me who's about t' get messed up!

Leon: Hanamura...

Souda: THAT guy?! Fuckin' pervert, I'm gonna pull 'is beady eyes outta his head! What did he do t' ya?!

Leon: He...he took me (Souda's heart stops right there, but then-)

Leon: He took me to see the saddest movie of all time!

Setting: Cafeteria. Souda, after volunteering to do so, returns to the table with Leon's lunch and sits next to the baseball player. Leon, unaware of how Souda feels about him, beams at him warmly.

Leon: Thanks, fizzy drink. Mind tellin' me why you're cool towards me all the time?

In my absence, quite a few of you joined the party. And YOU’RE REAL PEOPLE. None of you are spammy porn blogs.

Well, considering my absences, and how many of you enjoy the WORDS on this blog (because that really is a miracle), this Bubblegum Rock blog is truly something to be proud of. :) Thanks everyone.

Setting: Leon and Souda's dorm room. Much to Souda's horror, he was paired with Leon in dorm assignments. They're just getting in from class, on a brutally hot Summer day. Leon, completely unaware of his friend's massive crush on him, gives him puppy dog eyes.

Leon: Souda?

(Souda chokes on his own tongue. His heart stops beating for what feels like forever, and he starts sweating as though he's right on the sun. The look on Leon's face and his flushed cheeks: too hot to handle.)

Souda: Y-y-yeah?! Wh-what?!

Leon: Would you...um...

Souda: (even louder, in panic mode) Whaddya want?! Spit it out already, Kuwata-kun!

Leon: Would you mind giving me some...um...(Souda chokes again over the word 'some')...lemonade? I'm...uh, kinda tired, so...

Leon slumps over in his chair, eyes filled with the ebbing light of defeat. It’s been a brutally long day, so he’s anything but his usual cheery, radiant self.

“Why do I even try? Not like anyone will care if I stop.”

Souda jumps in with a response. His entire body’s allergic to seeing Leon anything other than happy, and Kuwata-kun’s been in low spirits all day. The Summer heat’s not helping. Even though Leon’s practiced in it with his teammates a billion times, without the adrenaline of the game, nothing’s blocking him from melting. So it’s just been a bad day all around. But-

“That ain’t true, Kuwata! You can’t think like that!”

Leon looks up at him, eyes made of hope, excitement, the deepest gratitude. Souda, despite choking on his own tongue, keeps going. “Sure, today’s been a long day, but all ya gotta do is take some rest,” the mechanic continues frantically. “Take five! There’s always tomorrow! Give yourself some time to relax and before you know it, you’ll be right back in the game, bigger ‘n better than ever!”

Leon says nothing for what seems like forever, particularly because it’s a thousand degrees and the planet’s melting. The baseball player then beams at Souda with a smile that rips the air right out of his lungs.

Ibuki would be ecstatic over performing at her big bro Leon’s wedding. She and Kuwata-chan would fill the warehouse with the loudest, most joyful tunes because it’s the happiest day on Earth, so why not? Hanamura would have the entire warehouse packed with cakes and other pastries, both classes would be dancing-

(Never mind your grammar, you’re fine!) :)

Leon finds Souda out of batteries, sitting all alone and can’t understand who would hurt the poor thing because come on, Souda’s the nicest guy alive. He walks over to Souda and asks him: “you okay, fizzy soda?” Souda, teary-eyed, sobs about being dumped by ‘the girl of my dreams’. Leon, with a radiant smile, pats him on the back.

“Never mind her, then! If she couldn’t see what an incredible guy you are, she’s not the one for you! You’re one-in-a-million, Kazuichi Souda, and someone out there will see that. They’ll find you and think ‘hot damn, I’m the luckiest guy or chick alive’!”

Leon gives him another pat and tells him to ‘don’t give up’ before walking off, whistling. Souda, no longer sobbing, watches him go with a thought whispered in the back of his mind.

You may not think what I have to say is a big deal, but it’s pretty important to me. I desperately crave for connections on my other Tumblr blogs, but this morning I finally realized that the connections I have been seeking are all right here. You guys roll into this blog like it’s an on-going parade. You support it. Not only that, but many of you love the fanfiction. The stories. The posts that AREN’T pictures.

Not to downplay anyone that likes/reblogs the fan art, but for writing to be noticed on Tumblr is a miracle. It’s either popular pictures or nothing. To those of you enjoying my fanfiction, and there are plenty of you: thank you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you thank you thank you.

I may shelve this blog for a little while, like I’ve been doing recently, but I’ll never abandon it. I promise. There’s far too many of you supporting me and our darling Bubblegum Rock ship.

I don’t know about any of the other DR tags, but the ‘dangan ronpa’ tag has been breached by idiot spammers. Again. Spam seems to be an ongoing problem here on Tumblr, so PLEASE take precautions when visiting popular tags. Try typing in character names to possibly avoid the graphic spam. There are apparently downloads you can use to avoid it, too.
