✧ ˚ · . About Me: Oh hi! I'm GinaTeeth aka Zaftigg von BonBon. I'm a (mostly) former burlesque/pole performer and instructor and currently mom to a toddler, brand new to a lot of this (tumblr, fanfic, fandoms), and slightly obsessed with Baldur's Gate 3.

I major in Mister Dekarios and minor in Astarion and Jaheira. My writing tends toward kink-positive, intimacy-forward, angsty and crack treated seriously.

Rating: Explicit 18+ Pairings: Jaheira/Khalid Summary: Inspired by the nameday note from Khalid found in Jaheira's basement in BG3. Before the Shadows of Amn, before Gorion's end, there was only them. When Jaheira discovers Khalid has been secretly rewriting their life through poetry—erasing every moment his stutter stole from him—she decides words are stealing her husband away. A raw, tender, and explicit exploration of love, acceptance, and living in the imperfect present.

A spotless sky with sun to light our way out of shadows, we rise to meet our dawn. I faced you, love, and spoke unblemished, true, that always haunts my waking memory. “By leaf and root, by moon and mortal fire, I pledge my blade, my breath, my quiet faith. As elven hearts have joined through ages deep, so do I bind my days and nights to yours. No shadow, no cruel blade, no whispered doubt shall part what we have planted here in trust.” You answered soft, and all the world grew still.

Jaheira’s thumb worried the dried teardrops on the parchment, tracing a faint circle into the ink. She could almost see him hunched over the page by candlelight, eyes glistening, lips moving silently as he practiced the flawless words. The image made her chest ache with fierce, protective love.

This was the fifth poem she had found. A reimagining of their wedding day and his vows, unmarred by the exhausting physicality of verbal blocks and repetitions.

I'm so pleased to finally share this oneshot.

In a 1920s Faerûn traveling freakshow, Astarion, the Gentleman Geek is sent to fix the sulking merman who’s killing ticket sales. But the creature in the tank isn’t a gaff—he’s Gale, cursed and miserable in freshwater, his voice stolen by a hag.

A loose retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's dark Little Mermaid retelling where two broken things choose each other in a world of cruelty and exploitation.

It was after this show that Astarion resolved to dazzle his Gale with attention, as lovestruck fools have done since the first tides rose.

Brackish is part of the Bloodweave MerMay event this year. I had the pleasure of collaborating with an artist and am eager to share her beautiful/haunting work once the collection is revealed on May 30th. For now, here's a little taste of my 1920s Freakshow in Faerûn AU one shot:

He took a long drag from his hand-rolled cigarette, flicked it outside, and stepped into the dim car. The merman was curled in on himself, small and sorry-looking in the guttering light. He’d seen him like this a few times in the early weeks of the run. Hadn’t thought much of it then. Just another broken performer in a tank. He certainly didn’t think he was a genuine merman.

No wonder the crowds were thinning. Melancholy—magnificent or not—didn’t sell tickets.

Astarion approached the glass. “Hello?” he said, and tapped once, lightly.

Nothing.

He sighed, the sound sharp in the quiet car, and tapped again—harder this time. “Murray,” he called. Then, louder, with the particular exhaustion of a man who had already done too many things he did not care to do that day: “MURRAY.”

The lightning came then.

For one bright instant the car lit like a stage. The merman whipped around, eyes catching the storm—hazel, wild, electric—and fixed Astarion with a glare so sharp it could have drawn blood. Sun-browned shoulders. A tail the color of bruised twilight. Gills tattered along neck and ribs. The purple scar sprawling from chest to cheek.

Names are easy things to give when the other mouth cannot argue back, but this time the Gentleman Geek felt something different stir. The merman did not like being called Murray.

“Gale,” he murmured, tasting the word like brine. “You look like a storm come ashore.” The merman swished his tail once, slow and deliberate, as though the new name was more tolerable. But he still paid the pale elf very little mind, curling tighter in on himself.

For reference: Jaheira has discovered Khalid is using poetry to re-write moments in their lives he feels his stuttering has spoiled.

No More Words

“Khalid.”

He straightened at once, sword forgotten across his knees, face brightening. “Jaheira.”

“I have read them,” she said without preamble, holding up the latest parchment. “All of them. The wedding vows. The argument about the Harpers. The night you first tried to tell me you loved me.” Her voice softened, but only a little. “And now this.”

His ears shifted and flushed crimson. He looked away, jaw tight.

“I d-didn’t mean for you t-to… I only wanted to have the versions that were… better.”

“Better?” Jaheira gave a short, dry laugh that held no real humor. She stepped between his spread thighs, pushing them apart with her knee. “You mean the versions where your tongue does not betray you. Where you are not the man I chose.”

His eyes dropped to the sword.

She exhaled through her nose, then crouched so they were eye-level. One calloused hand rose to cup his scarred cheek, thumb stroking the beautiful scar that marked him, forcing his eyes back to hers.

“Khalid… I do not want the husband who spoke flawless vows beneath a spotless sky. I married the man who stood on a rain-soaked cart, stammering so badly I thought he might give up—and still bound his life to mine with every broken syllable.”

Her voice softened, but the steel beneath it remained.

“This last one hurt to read, Khalid. Beautiful, yes. But you disappear into your words, into worlds where I cannot follow.”

His breath hitched. “I… I know it’s f-foolish. But I thought… if I could just once speak without—with-without this damnable—”

He stopped under the steadfastness of her gaze and set the sword aside.

“I do not need a lion who never faltered. I need the man who fights with, not against, his stutter every day and still chooses to speak. I need you. Here. Now. Not lost in ink and unreachable dreams.”

She took both his hands and guided them under her tunic, pressing his palms flat against the warm bare skin of her ribs. Khalid’s fingers flexed against her sides, pulling her a fraction closer, his cheeks turning that beautiful shade of shy she’d grown rather fond of.

“Stop trying to dam the river, my love. Let it flow through you. Let yourself flow.”

And then we launch into explicit smutty smut smut.
