yuv does take dust baths to keep pests off his feathers, but gryphons don’t quite have to worry about them. their feathers already have a repellent like quality to them that keeps most off. the baths are to keep off the few.

yuv getting rescued from the cult in haven by the dao crew but he doesn’t speak out of fear, so they spend a few days thinking he’s an animal. an extinct animal, but an animal all the same. imagine their surprise when he suddenly asks one night what they were having for supper because he’s hungry

the cult in haven had yuvon tied to a post in an open field as an offering to the dragon ( or the darkspawn, whatever got to him first ). almost all of his wing feathers were plucked by them as griffon feathers can either have strong healing abilities or use in creating potent poisons. which, the cult had an incomplete knowledge of. they were under the assumption the type of feathers taken made the distinction between healing potion or poison; thought it only mattered if they were taken from the wings or tail. a body can be found dead in one of the huts with empty bottles and remnants of feathers on the table. it matters if the feathers were given willingly.

the thought of yuvon joining a questing party is so funny to me. congrats on your new giant, feathery and annoying little brother

the only thing about yuvon shifting into his elven form is it always leaves behind a pile of feathers. an obscene amount ( he’s a big boy, leave him alone ) and it does tip hunters off. they haven’t been able to find him in his elven form yet but they’ve gotten close

a unique and mythical property of golden gryphon feathers is the ability to heal nearly any ailment ( it cannot regrow lost limbs, unfortunately ) if eaten directly or made into a potion. HOWEVER, only if said feathers were given willingly. feathers lost during molting and taken by force are poisonous and extremely deadly when consumed. there’s a prevalent myth the location of the feather matters in whether or not they’ll be poisonous. wing feathers are safe, feathers from the tail aren’t, etc … gryphons do not give freely.
