socialists are constantly lectured by condescending liberals that the revolution isn't realistic, sweetie, but these people have clearly never studied the history of revolutionary movements and just assume all radicals are like bomb throwing angry teenagers or some shit. most revolutionary parties, from the black panther party to the people's liberation army, have integrated the building of spaces outside the state and capital that meet the needs of working people materially and practically. these people are just parroting the "works in theory not in practice uwu" cliche that had been used to silence any vision of politics outside of electoralism for fucking years. it's so frustrating

They controlled for socioeconomic factors though! The people who conducted this study knew that people with lots of money to attend the opera were also more likely to be able to afford basic necessities, so they controlled for it in their analysis. The fun thing about statistics is that you can control for different confounding factors so you can look at the effects of one independent variable (opera or whatever) on the dependent variable (mortality). Part of being critical of potential biases is actually reading the article and knowing what to look for.

ive been off and on watching that new animated grinch movie since last night and i think theres a popular text post expressing this exactly but my god its so pathetic the grinch isnt even mean like they show one scene where hes rude in a grocery store (because the grinch apparently goes down to get groceries) and the rest of the movie hes generally unselfish and even pleasant. like just absolutely pitiful.  i feel like i need to watch the jim carrey grinch movie as a palate cleanser
