“It’s a very small side walk - shall I step into the road and get hit by a car so you can pass?” she gestured to the busy road 

“How considerate of you.”

“I suppose they could just think you were over eager for the arrival of the celebrations,” she considered. 

“Do I make you uncomfortable?”

“This isn’t anyone’s fault Kyr. This is just how it goes.”

“I know you are.”

“What’s our next step?“

“My apologies, I didn’t mean it to sound like I was telling you to do something about - I was just curious if mundanes had been saying anything to you about it,”

“Why would they? Mardi Gras 2018 starts in a week.“

“I’m just saying why don’t we stay inside, at least until it’s dark out.”

“Play it how we used to.”

“I thought this would be different. I allowed myself a moment of security and hope! Look where it got us?“

“And your eyes?”

“We don’t get free passes like other warlocks.”

“Eyecandys.com and I have a blue and black pair from honeycolor.com.“ She repeated as if she practiced multiple times. “Get out of the stoneages.“

Magnus shook his head, never stopping his hand movements. “I have intense protections up around this place. There’s maybe three people I could name who could do that, and none of them are mad at me.” Magnus stared at his hands and can’t remember the last time he felt this vulnerable. “Both of us were using our powers a lot tonight, we might just be tired…” His voice was distracted, and he began pulling out his phone as he trailed off. He sent a quick text to Cat and waited for a response. 

Josh pulled her into him close, and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. “Whatever it is, do you guys feel strong enough to start cleaning this up?” He looked around the room at the mess and slowly started to realize how odd Magnus’s apartment looked. He’d bet about half the items were gone that would normally be there. “Do you buy anything? Or is it all just stolen?”

He heard the crash from the dumpster, eyes immediately lighting up green. Every prediction he’d made in his head about a fight was flashing before his eyes as he ran up the stairs two at a time. Flinging open the door he saw broken glass everywhere and two unglamored warlocks. 

“What the hell happened?” He was already making his way towards Kyra, when he saw Magnus gesturing fluidly. He’d seen the same motions earlier as he lifted the now broken lanterns in the air. 

Josh smiled and shrugged knowing he couldn’t lie to her. “Not my scene is all… What about you? Having fun?”

“No. Chairmen got loose and now a group of nimbles wont let me have him back.“

“Kyra, my dear you worry too much. Most of the shifters are just dramatic and not actually ready to do any harm. And the ones who are probably won’t come because they don’t know how to have fun.”

“What can I say. I’m caked up in makeup and I have on a thong.“

“Just needed some fresh air…”

“Do I?” He winked at her and smiled. 

“Of course you can. Cat’s just have a tendency to be dramatic in every situation available. Even when they have good intentions it can be disastrous.”

“You’re the one throwing a party for all species. That’s what I call disastrous.“

“No. But make sure you gently remind your boy of those rules as well.”

“Defending your honor will not be an acceptable excuse.”

“Joshua. That’s his name and I know you know it perfectly.“
