May and all the flowering things are, well, flowering! There are 500 identified plant species depicted in the painting, with about 190 different flowers, of which at least 130 can be specifically identified. There is a botanist somewhere that identified all the flowers in Botticelli's Primavera and wrote a book on the symbolic significance of each one in the painting.
This painting was unknown until it was pulled out of a private residence in Florence in the 19th century.
