Official 2014 Ghoul Pool Rules
2014 GHOUL POOL RULES
Contestants must choose fifteen (15) celebrities they believe will die between January 1 and December 31, 2014.
Lists must be submitted to Elwood by Friday, January 17, 2014 at 5pm along with your $15 entry fee. Lists submitted early may be adjusted up until the above deadline (the "Joe Calgaro Rule").
Celebrities must be alive as of December 31, 2013 at 11:59pm or at the time of submission, whichever comes later.
Celebrity must be nationally/internationally known. Celebrity can be chosen from the fields of athletics, entertainment, politics, music, religion, literature, etc. Local celebrities (area radio/TV personalities, politicians, etc.) are not eligible. Celebrity must be human and a real person.
Celebrity must be recognized by at least two other contestants. Submissions judged to be too obscure will not be allowed.
Celebrities must be known for something other than being in a life-threatening situation at the time of submission. For example, death row convicts (i.e. Scott Peterson), terminally ill patients (i.e. Terry Schiavo), or the “oldest living person” will not be allowed… but if Miley Cyrus were to be convicted of murder and sentenced to death, or went into a coma, she would still be allowed because of whatever it is that she’s famous for.
Contestants will be allowed to replace any ineligible submission on their list once informed of the ineligibility. Replacement Celebrity must conform to all previously stated requirements.
In order to receive a point, a Celebrity must be declared officially dead between January 1 and December 31, 2014. Points will not be awarded for Celebrities determined to have died before or after that time period. For example: if Jimmy Hoffa’s body is discovered in March, but it is determined that he died in 1975, no points will be awarded. Also, if a Celebrity is discovered dead after the December 31 deadline and it is determined that they died in 2014, no points will be awarded.
Celebrity must die and stay dead in order for a contestant to receive a point. Having your heart stop, and then be resuscitated (a la Nikki Sixx) would not count. Death must be a permanent condition to count for the Ghoul Pool.
Contestant cannot aid in the death of any celebrity named in the Ghoul Pool. Causing the death of a Ghoul Pool Celebrity directly or indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally will result in disqualification from the Ghoul Pool, a lifetime ban from the Ghoul Pool, and probably some jail time too.
Contestant with the most points on January 1, 2015 will be crowned the winner. If there are less than 10 contestants, first place will receive the entire prize pool. If there are 10-19 contestants, prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place (2/3 and 1/3 of prize money respectively). If there are 20 or more contestants, prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place (1/2, 1/3, and 1/6 of prize money respectively).
In case of a tie, the total prize money will be split evenly between all the tied contestants. The number of contestants with a higher score than you determines your placement– not necessarily your own score. For example, if you have the second highest score, but three people tied for first with the highest score – you came in fourth place (not second) since three players had higher scores than you.
Winner will also have his or her name placed on the Official Ghoul Pool Traveling Trophy, which may be displayed at the winner’s desk for the calendar year of 2015. In case of tie, trophy will split time between all winners’ desks. Trophy must be displayed in the Woodward Radio building at all times.
Any further rule determinations will be made by Elwood or by committee as needed.
