I'd like to posit that one of the most important skills you can and should learn as a little (using this as an umbrella term, please feel free to insert any label you identify with) is to be your own Caregiver.

It is not an easy mantle to bear, but it is a vital one for a few reasons. How would you know what kind of care and Caregiver you need and be able to communicate that to whomever is courting you? In my opinion, (controversial, I know) to weed out the Not- So-Daddies and save yourself and that fragile part of yourself a lot of heartache and tears.

I'm a big advocate for my little self. I have to be. She's my ooh-wee gooey center to the hard shell that is me. I hope you are too, it's so easy to get swept up in the fantasy of memes and info graphs etc of what we dream our Caregivers will be for us.

Why not instead take the time to really ask yourself, "What kind of care do I need? What kind of care do I not need?" And never settle, dearheart.
