Soulmate AU where everyone has a tattoo with the nickname their soulmate calls them.

Summary: “Are you saying Stan the Man isn’t a total stud? I mean if you take away the stick up his ass and the ugly clothes, he’s a fucking stud. Right, Bill? When we get down to the quarry tonight, I triple dog dare you to call Stan Studley and you can’t tell him it’s a dare.”

It starts out as a dare but some names just stick.

It was summer vacation and Bill had felt a little reckless. Something exciting had to happen, but with most of the Losers tied up at home, the epic adventure he’d longed for had been replaced by a game of Triple Dog with Richie and Ben.

“Richie”, Ben said, as they strolled down the sidewalk into Downtown Derry. “I triple dog dare you to wear lipstick for the rest of the day.”

Richie pushed his glasses up his nose and smiled at Ben. “Sure, Haystack, but we don’t have lipstick, do we?”

Ben grinned, the most wicked grin Bill had ever seen on the otherwise sweet boy, and then he pulled a bright red lipstick out of his pocket.

“Something you want to tell us?”, Richie said, taking the lipstick from him and unscrewing it. He stopped in front of a display window to see his reflection. “Everyone knows I’m a huge Homo anyway.”

“Only b-b-because you have to l-l-l-let everyone know Eddie is yours.”

Richie looked over his shoulder to grin at Bill, then turned around and applied the lipstick. He’d never seen Richie wear lipstick, but he applied it so effortlessly it was hard to believe it was his first time. “Sure! Have you seen Eddie? He’s so damn cute, somebody’ll try and steal him from under my nose.”

“You’re literally soulmates”, Ben said, snatching the lipstick back once Richie was done and pocketed it. “And this is Bev’s. She left it at my place.”

Richie smacked his lips and made kissy-faces at his reflection. “So? If he wasn’t my soulmate, I would steal him.”

Bill rolled his eyes. Sure, he was happy for his friends that they were each other’s soulmate and were obviously happy together, but he did not need to see them suck faces whenever they hung out as a group and Richie’s flirting had only gotten worse.

As if on cue, Richie turned around and struck a pose, running a hand through his hair and winking at Bill. “What do you think, boys? But you’ll have to control yourself, this bitch is taken.”

“Even all the m-m-m-akeup in the world couldn’t hide th-that Trashmouth.”

“I know you desperately want to kiss me now, Big Bill”, Richie said, throwing an arm around Bill’s shoulders as they started walking again. “And you look so cute, I’m half tempted to triple dog dare you to do it, but…” And then he felt Richie’s lips press against his jaw, leaving a big red stain before Bill could push him off. Just when Bill wanted to wipe it away, Richie grabbed his hands. “Nu-uh! That stays. I triple dog dare you.”

It wasn’t the worst dare, especially if the culprit walked right next to him. Nobody would question the lipstick stain, because everybody knew that that was just a Richie thing to do. And now he was in charge of the next triple dog dare. For a moment he thought about daring Ben to show them his soulmate tattoo, but remembered how angry Eddie had gotten about it, when Richie’d done it and thought he didn’t need to know that badly. He also didn’t really want to see Ben’s junk if that truly was where his tattoo was.

“We’re still meeting up with the others tonight at the quarry, right?”, Richie asked.

Although the others had plans during the day, they’d all decided to go swimming tonight around sunset, but one glance at his watch told Bill that they still had four hours to kill until then.

“10 bucks I’ll find Stanley’s tattoo today.”

“L-l-leave him alone, Rich.”

Richie’s obsession with Stan’s tattoo had only faded while Eddie had kept his a secret, but as soon as the cat was out of the bag, Richie’s interest had returned, probably more so since they found out Stan was hiding it with makeup. Bill would be lying if he said, he wasn’t curious too; a curiosity that had absolutely nothing to do with how happy he’d been, when he’d found out Eddie and Stan weren’t a thing, or how his stomach turned whenever he remembered that Stan had shown Eddie and not him.

With the bright red lips, Richie’s annoying grin looked almost obscene. “Defending your boyfriend?”

Bill frowned. “What are you talking about?”

He wasn’t that obvious, was he? If Bev had noticed, he wouldn’t be too surprised or even Stan himself, but Richie, who only had eyes for Eddie and still hadn’t figured out Eddie liked him… No, he was not that obvious.

“I’m just saying, now that Studley for sure isn’t into my Eddie Spaghetti, he’s free to conquer.”

Ben snorted. “Studley?”

“Are you saying Stan the Man isn’t a total stud? I mean if you take away the stick up his ass and the ugly clothes, he’s a fucking stud. Right, Bill?” Richie nudged him with his elbow and it took everything Bill had in him not to react to that. Stud might not have been the word he’d use, but yes, of course he thought Stan looked great.

“I mean he’s… he’s alright. I think”, Ben spluttered. “Like I don’t think he’s ugly or anything, but… uhm… I don’t know.”

Richie put an arm around both of his friends, easily amused by Ben’s discomfort. It wasn’t that Ben was uncomfortable discussing another guy’s attractiveness, Bill knew, he was probably more scared someone would tell Stan Ben had called him ugly; something Ben Hanscom would never do.

“Hey Bill”, Richie said after a while. “When we get down to the quarry tonight, I triple dog dare you to call Stan Studley and you can’t tell him it’s a dare.”

He would do absolutely no such thing. Studley was absolutely ridiculous and that nickname would never leave his mouth ever. He’d rather set his pants on fire while wearing them.

“You already d-dared me a m-m-minute ago.”

“So? It’s a triple dog dare, you have to do it.” Richie turned to Ben for confirmation and the other boy nodded. “See, it’s the rules.”

“I’m not c-c-calling him that!”

“A dare is a dare, Rocky!”

And with that Richie skipped towards the arcade. Ben and Bill watched him wave at group of girls in front of the Aladdin, who all started to giggle, when they saw his bright red lips.

(sorry for how long this is! i got a little carried away)

-they have the same parents, but richie takes their dad’s name and mike takes their mother’s

-this is because when they were kids they came up with this idea no one would guess they were related if they had different last names

-nancy laughed at them both and told them how ridiculous that was, but it stuck

-they shared a room up until they were seven and got in an argument and richie ended up throwing soda at mike and ruining the duvet of his bed (they had already destroyed a lot of stuff before then.  This was the final straw for Mrs. Wheeler)

-mike finds it obnoxious how messy richie is

-their bathroom is half warzone, half last ditch attempts by mike to keep it clean

-they end up having their own “sides” of the counter but richie’s stuff always ends up on mike’s side

-once richie used mike’s toothbrush so mike dunked richie’s toothbrush in the toilet and didn’t tell him

-dustin and lucas sometimes laugh at richie’s jokes and mike hisses “don’t encourage him”

-richie has a habit of flirting with everyone

-this includes will.

-sometimes he makes a dirty joke and winks at will and will blushes

-mike gets annoyed by it, but always tells himself it’s just because he doesn’t want his gross brother hitting on any of his friends

-they have fights over who’s going to have the sleepover this weekend.  

-the losers always make sure to include mike though

-just like the party includes richie (if he’s home, a lot of the time he sneaks over to eddies)

-mike never tells their parents that richie’s snuck out, no matter how mad he is, because he knows how horrible eddie’s mom is

-when he was younger, mike had a crush on bill, something he will NEVER admit

-he also had a crush on bev, who was so nice to him and used to offer him the last cookie/soda/bit of chips

-the party is kind of in awe of how cool bev is, and they always try to invite her to join their party

-richie is like “MY FRIENDS NOT URS” and bev finds it really funny

-even though richie and mike get on each other’s nerves, they band together really fast when one of them is picked on.

-richie constantly comes home with black eyes and a bloody nose/lip because people pick on mike and his friends

-mike and eddie help clean him up, both telling him to “sit still idiot”

-when they’re sixteen one time richie comes out of the shower with just sweatpants “hey mike, have you seen my scorpions shirt?”

-will goes bright look and glances down super quickly

-mike notices this and gets kinda angry? Not at will just the general situation

-but richie has been in love with eddie since he was like ten, and they’ve been dating since 8th grade so he only has eyes for his eds

-he notices how bothered mike is by this and just kinda laughs to himself bc he knows they’ll have to sort it out for themselves

-nancy, richie, and mike are a fucking power trio

-nancy takes them out to the city every month or so, less when she heads out to college

-they always visits mike’s “nerd stops” like museums and various comic book stores.

-they also hit up record shops (for richie) and occasionally nancy sneaks them into a grunge show “ONLY IF THEY PROMISE TO BE GOOD AND STAY IN HER SIGHT”

-both of them dread when nancy drags them to a clothing store, whining the whole way, but they have fun messing around with different outfits while nancy shops

-they talk about boys (and girls, the wheelers/toziers are bi icons) over food and whenever someone mentions will, mike gets all blushy.  Nancy and Richie share knowing looks

-nancy is definitely the cool, protective sister.  If she hears anyone in the higher classes making fun of richie and eddie she’s fucking ON THAT, turns out richie learned it all from her

-richie and mike definitely bond over how sucky their dad is. Insulting him when he isn’t around, teaming up to argue with him when he’s being ridiculous

-they know secrets about each other too, one’s they’d never tell anyone else

-mike knows that richie has nightmares about a family that hurts and ignores him, and it’s his biggest fear to end up alone like he is in his dreams

-richie knows that mike fears no one will need him anymore, and that he’s always struggling to have his voice heard

-richie gets real tired of mike and will sharing looks and then looking away blushing, and skirting around each other.  He “accidentally” locks them in a closet, and comes back thirty minutes later.

-they’re kissing

-they basically rip apart when richie opens the door

-”FINALLY YOU FUCKING LOVEBIRDS”

-will is bright red and mike is all stuttery “SHUT UP RICHIE”

-richie in a rare moment tells mike how happy he is for him (after will goes home)

-mike is all smiley and happy

-”he still thinks i’m hotter”

-”BEEP BEEP RICHIE” and a pillow is thrown at him

-richie and mike end up going to different colleges

-both of them joke how happy they are to escape the other, but in truth it’s kind of sad

-the second night of being alone, without mike close by, richie calls mike at like 1 am

-mike picks up immediately

-”did you have a nightmare?”

-richie doesn’t want to admit that he misses him “it’s fucking weird not to hear your annoying voice yammering away”

-mike realizes what’s going on “real quiet now that your shitty music isn’t blasting”

-both of them just chat about how life is going, until they start to fall asleep

-richie is best man at mike’s wedding, and mike is best man at richie’s

-mike gets strippers for richie for his bachelors party

-richie sets up a fucking LARP session

-and richie’s speech makes mike cry (it ends with “i love you, you fucking nerd”)

-when mike and will adopt a daughter,  richie and eddie come over to visit and play with the kid a lot

-mike and richie like to pretend to be each other

-bevs like ;) coz she knows wtf goin on

-eddies heating up the popcorn while richie slips his hands on eddies waist and his chin on his shoulder

-“hey i missed you, eddie spaghetti” eddies redder than a tomato he says “don’t call me that, idiot”

-richies a little tease he says “it’s been so long you look so cute tonight”

-“uhm we just saw each other at school rich-”

-richie explains that he missed eddie at lunch coz he wasn’t there

-but he actually missed lunch coz they skipped class to make out one day and eddie had to make up all the work that he missed

-they start like kissing mwah mwah and it gets really intense like full on mWAH MWAH

-but then the microwave beeps and the popcorns like skkkya pop pop boom kaka

-they scramble of each other and richie sees the hickey he made like hehe

-they “casually” go back into the living room and the losers don’t say anything about the hickey OR the burnt popcorn

-the end of the night bev and richie take a smoke break together and beverly’s like “bro…. i know”

-richie like whip! and he rants the rest the night about how much he loves eddie and how much he can’t wait to tell the other losers :)
