This is just my personal take and opinion, but I feel Infinite wasn’t meant to be someone that hates friendship because his friends died, it as someone that never gave it a chance or tried it. Him hating friendship because an ally of Sonic killed his friends would be too sympathetic for the story Forces was trying to tell with Infinite and the Avatar. Like it’s not the backstory a shonen would give to a villain like Infinite.

i recall in his final fight in forces sonic calls him lonely ("your mask can't hide how sad and lonely you are")- i wonder if this was just a taunt or a genuine comment on his character. is he secretly lonely and filling the hole with power? or is he completely uninterested in connection and just wants to be a jerk? either way i do love whatever is wrong with him

One of the writers for Sonic forces said something something like Infinite was supposed to be an enemy that rejected and opposed the idea of friendship and bonds, so I’d guess Infinite not having any true bonds with his squad outside of security was intended to be part of that.
ahh yes i feel like i recall seeing something like that as well!! i always assumed him rejecting friendship and bonds came from him losing the jackal squad, that they were holding him back or made him weak. (or that his devastation at losing them was a sign of his own weakness. but that one's up for debate) and then sonic preaching something along the lines of "i won bc i have friends and you lost bc you're sad and lonely" served as an extra kick in the shorts
but also not to bring up the avatar AGAIN but yeah!! infinite retreats inward and isolates himself and the avatar surrounds themself with buddies :)
I know I already made a post to this effect but it's so baffling to me when someone defends the fact that headphone jacks are slowly but surely getting phased out by smartphone manufacturers with some variations of "wireless headphones are more convenient anyway" bc like. If we're talking about convenience what I like about wired headphones is that they conveniently have a single plug that makes the same damn pair of headphones universally compatible with every single audio-output-capable device I own, from my phone and my computer to my fucking gameboy and my casette player, it doesn't get any more convenient than that.

I think there’s a double standard against Infinite. Everyone praises Mephiles for being pure evil with no sympathetic qualities, yet Infinite is criticized and called an edgelord or “wasted” for the same reason.
I can’t help feeling Infinite is more criticized because he isn’t a hedgehog.
i can't speak much on mephiles bc I haven't played 06 but im also extremely biased bc i love infinite so so much,,,
however as much as i love him i do understand where some of the criticism comes from. forces and its prequel comics don't give us much to work with when it comes to understanding him. he's made it clear he's jaded and hates the world and finds everyone worthless and shallow but...why? why does he hate the world? more importantly, what is it about HIMSELF that he thinks is so superior to the petty and shallow ppl of the world? this has yet to be explored (unless there's something im missing lol) what's more, from my understanding mephiles has the power to back himself up, but infinite, while he's not WEAK, has sustained many a beatdown, so even if his intentions are nothing but sinister, he isn't much of a threat in the grand scheme. he appears edgy and whiny and lame bc he talks big game about being the super menacing ultimate mercenary who's gonna trap the world in a never-ending nightmare, but it doesn't take much to send him running.
but also even if infinite had no sympathetic qualities or intentions (which, i feel like him being afraid for possibly the first time at the hands of shadow left him w something he couldn't cope with [once again turning to the avatar as his foil, the both of them start from a place of fear but handle it in different ways]) him being a loser is kinda the point. at least to me. idk if any of this was intentional on the devs part but like. infinite IS all talk. he's spiteful and holds grudges and talks shit but he can't back himself up. he's got a mask on literally and figuratively. he acts tough and he most certainly wants to BE tough but he's not. he's a soggy loser and he is a little weak but he can't face that so he takes out his frustration on those weaker than them, and inevitably gets curb stomped when someone stronger comes along. again this is just my view of him, i have no idea if this was like. the actual point of him but To Me his lameness circles around into being charming. i think ppl consider him "wasted" bc he truly has so much potential bc theres so much we don't know about him. i'm excited for his future tho bc the casefiles really seem to be setting him up for greatness!!
