Basically, Video Game Addiction is no different than any other addiction. It effects less than 3% of active gamers. There are deeper issues at play just like when someone is addicted to drugs, gambling, or other things. Unfortunately, affluenza parenting and other factors (including an unwillingness to learn or understand the gamer) are going to have people βsufferingβ when in reality they are just enjoying their hobby.
So next time you are saying your child or significant other is βaddictedβ to gaming, why not learn more about the game or play with them. Otherwise this will become the next ADD/ADHD overdiagnosis situation.
