me about my own post I made 12 minutes ago: i don’t agree w that take actually

the pitt clearly has a problem treating female characters of color with care and respect and with the same importance that they do their white characters and i’m sick of people trying to defend it. no one has ever wondered if mel or mckay or langdon will be written out because the writers gave them storylines that cement them into the show, but with collins and samira and javadi they decided to write them one foot in and one foot out. javadi doesn’t know if she wants to be in the ER. she has a last minute shoehorned passion for psych. but ogilvie gets lectured at about giving the ER another chance and why it’s the best place to be. samira tries desperately to stay and they write her off anyway. collins was a load bearing wall of a character in season one that gives much needed pushback against robby and she wasn’t even allowed to finish out season one. they do not care about telling stories about women of color. they don’t fucking care!

whitaker waxes poetic to ogilvie about how greatttttt being an emergency medicine doctor is and how much he loves it and how it’s worth pursuing, and even though ogilvie spent the entire season being a menace and getting set up for a dressing down, they rewrote his whole character arc to end on a hopeful, tender moment that affirms his desire to work in an ER but when it’s javadi questioning if she wants to continue working in THE SETTING OF THE SHOW. THE PLACE WHERE THE SHOW TAKES PLACE THE ONLY PLACE THAT THE AUDIENCE GETS TO SEE, fuck ass whitaker is the person who tells her that she should try for a different speciality. can we stop pretending that writing a character out of being an emergency medicine doctor in a show ABOUT THE ER is not diminishing their role.

season one they had Dennis condescend to Samira about how she treated the sickle cell patient to #learn and then in season two to show how much he’s grown, Dennis tells Cassie the twisted ovary patient should just be sent home because she looks fine despite her telling them that doctors ignore her pain constantly #goodcharactergrowth who wouldn’t want to watch him onscreen forever as all the WOC are written off

yeah victoria going to another rotation makes sense and tbh it probably isn't going to be handled that poorly. but on top of everything else it's kind of like well we're showing The Pattern again are we seeing that we're once again exhibiting The Pattern does anyone else see The Pattern
