work did a big laptop order because a bunch of people's laptops have been struggling. the person who put in the order put my name in because even though my laptop is fine we wanted to get another one to just hang on to for if/when a problem arises, for me or for anyone else. IT won't give us the new laptop unless I give them back my current laptop, which does not have problems. which is stupid. I want to keep my laptop because it has all my programs set up and I ran the github code to get rid of the ads and also I'm worried they'll give me one with a smaller screen and I love my big heavy laptop.

so in each of my three datasets my date variable is character var with the length 10 and the format $10.

when i run a proc freq for my date variable in each of these three datasets, they show up nicely

in my combined dataset the date variable continues to be character, length 10, format $10.

but when i run a proc freq it lists a small number of dates as 6 characters instead of 8 characters - most of them are correctly printed as "20240521" with an expected number of observations, but then some are printed as "202305" and have a higher number of obs. it seems clear that SOMEHOW, SOMEWHERE sas has decided to truncate some of the dates and so then all the days in some months are getting counted together

but when i proc print only observations where the date length is less than 8 characters, i just get my 30ish missing dates. there are no 6 character dates.

running proc freq and specifying in a format step that the date is $char10. makes them print correctly, which is thank god a solution but like. why the fuck would this happen.

EDIT: THIS ISN'T WORKING ANYMORE??? CLOCKING OUT I TRY AGAIN TOMORROW

i feel like there has to be a way for this program to not take 3 hours to run but i don't know how

running my builder and now i gotta do it chunk by chunk because somehow, at some point, the 2024 data is just gone. ummmm

my dad is very intensely involved a battle with his city’s public administration over a playground they have tried to forcibly remove like five times in the past 20 years and DID remove once in like 2005 but then had to rebuild because my dad was such a pain in their asses and came through with undeniable receipts of the zoning plan from the 60s/the historic/cultural value of the urban planning…. like there’s a woman in the city office who is his arch nemesis. he is literally the daredevil of urban planning

the fact that AA/NA, an abstinence-only, deeply religious, non evidence supported model based off writings from the 1930s, is seen as the first, only, and mandatory form of treatment for problematic/dangerous drug use is insane and ridiculous and i hate it and i hate how normalized and institutionalized AA is. people have to choose between AA or jail, AA or not having custody of their kids, AA or not getting welfare it's embarassing that the war on drugs and drug use has gone on this long with so much evidence against it

AA was the first organized attempt to actually treat addiction. It works for a small percentage of people.

However, it's almost 100 years old, and there are other treatments out there that work better. We aren't using 100 year old medicines for cancer, or pneumonia, or even arthritis, so why is the court MANDATING 100 year old treatments for addiction? (Why aren't there enough spaces in modern treatment facilities also?)

In addition, the abstinence model is very dangerous for opioid addiction, since users of drugs such as heroin are very likely to suffer a potentially fatal overdose when they relapse after detox, as most do.
